Deverell (ad hoc), M. Harris, M. Hogarth, P. O’Neill, H. Pawley, M. Ziniak (ad hoc) THE FACTS MTV Live is a youth-oriented magazine/talk program broadcast on MTV Canada. The episode in question aired from 7:30-8:30 am on February 27, 2007. It appeared to be a rerun of a previously aired episode because the hosts referred to “tonight”. The episode was hosted by Daryn Jones, Jessi Cruickshank and Diane Salema. The theme of the episode was “self love”, i.e. masturbation. The episode did not contain any viewer advisories. It was rated PG. During the program, a box was present in the lower right-hand corner of the screen that showed the comments of viewers who were participating in the live online chat session. The majority of the comments referred to the topic of day, masturbation. Also, at some points during the program, facts and information about masturbation and related topics appeared in words in a crawl at the bottom of the screen. Diane introduced the topic of the day at the beginning of the program in the following terms (a more complete transcript of the relevant portions of the program can be found in Appendix A): Um yeah, today’s topic on the show is about masturbation. Yeah, so let’s get in to chat and talk about this, ’cause this is gonna be a good one. -

Nielsen Music has also had an amazing, transformative year. Technological advancements and new partnerships have allowed us to provide robust, comprehensive data in more accessible, customizable and useful ways in 2017. Over the past year, we received a record number of requests for Nielsen Music research and insight reports. Welcome to the Nielsen Music Year-End Report, which examines the trends that shaped the Paul Shaver Canadian music industry in 2017 with definitive consumption figures and charts. Vice President/ Head of Nielsen Music Canada Overall consumption of albums, songs and On-Demand Audio streaming grew 13.6% year-over- year. On-Demand Audio streaming offset decreases in track and album sales and, on December 3, for the first time in history, it surpassed the 900 million per week mark. Ed Sheeran led all artists in Canada with overall consumption and had the top-selling album of the year. Six Canadians had No. 1 albums on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart in 2017, including The Weeknd’s Starboy, Drake’s More Life, Arcade Fire’s Everything Now, Shania Twain’s Now, Pierre Lapointe’s La Science Du Coeur and Gord Downie’s Introduce Yerself. The passing of Gord Downie captured the nation’s attention. In the week following his death, The Tragically Hip’s overall consumption increased by 1,000% over the previous week. Also, six of the group’s albums re-entered the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. -

Embracing Diversity in College Setting by Agnes Ramos
Rooted in tradition · Exploring the future Vol. 44 · Issue #8 Thursday, February 10, 2011 Loyalist College · Belleville, ON · Canada Embracing diversity in college setting By Agnes Ramos February is the shortest month of the year. It features Groundhog Day, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and Heart and Stroke Month. How- ever, many Loyalist College students may not know this: February is also Black History Month. The first celebration of Black His- tory Month in Canada was in Toron- to in 1950 and in 1995, the House of Commons nationally declared the month of February as Black History Month. Across the metropolitan areas of Canada, elementary schools, high schools, and post-secondary insti- tutions will be commemorating the achievements of black Americans and Canadians. From extravagant presentations and assemblies to simple tidbits of facts and quota- tions, students will be learning about the contributions of the Afri- can diaspora to the history of North America. But some schools, such as Loyal- ist, do not formally mark Black His- tory Month. “The college is an educational fa- cility with a large responsibility to the community…It doesn’t matter if we had just one person of colour here, we should still be educating ourselves. Black history is our his- tory,” said Shawn Doyle of the ab- original resource centre at Loyalist College.
