This study was carried out in 2000–2004 on strawberry plantations in Tukums, Rîga, Do- bele, and Limbaþi districts. Insects were collected from strawberry fields by pitfall trapping, sweep netting and leaf sampling methods. A total of 137 insect species belonging to seven orders and 41 families were identified to species. Of the phytophagous insects, the order Orthoptera was represented by one species, other orders by a larger number of species: Hymenoptera (3), Dip- tera (16), Lepidoptera (20), Thysanoptera (21), Hemiptera (39), and Coleoptera (37). Of the re- corded insects, 48 species have a status of general strawberry pests. Key words: Fragaria × ananassa, strawberry pests, insect diversity. Samsone 3 KOPSAVILKUMS Darba mērķis - noskaidrot ar zemenēm trofi ski saistīto posmkāju faunu zemeņu agrocenozē un izpētīt morfoloģiski-bioķīmiskās īpatnības un pretstresa adaptīvās reakcijas dārza zemenēm ar dažādu izturību pret parasto tīklērci (Tetranychus urticae). Faunistiskie pētījumi un lauka izmēģinājumi veikti Valsts Pūres Dārzkopības izmēģinājumu stacijā no 1997. līdz 1999. gadam, bet fi zioloģiskie eksperimenti izdarīti LU Bioloģijas institūtā un Bioloģijas fakultātē no 2000. līdz 2005. gadam. Zemeņu agrocenozē Pūres DIS konstatēta 55 posmkāju suga, no kurām 41 ir augēdāji un saprofāgi, bet 14 – entomofāgi un akarofāgi. Noskaidrots, ka visizplatītākie zemeņu kaitēkļi ir parastā tīklērce (Tetranychus urticae) un zemenāju ērce (Phytonemus pallidus). Konstatēts, ka dažādām zemeņu šķirnēm ir atšķirīga izturība pret parasto tīklērci, kas apstiprinājās gan lauka, gan laboratorijas izmēģinājumos. Atšķirīgo uzņēmību nosaka morfoloģiskās īpašības, bioķīmiskā sastāva īpatnības un inducējamo aizsargreakciju atšķirības. Tīklērču izturīgajām šķirnēm ir lielāks -

The data on the weevils in The Center for Small Grains Kragujevac collection, registered during the winter 2005 are presented in this work. Totally observed material contained 380 specimens, from 84 species, classified into 47 genera, 30 tribes, 15 subfamilies, from seven families (Anthribidae, Rhynchitidae, Attelabidae, Apionidae, Brachyceridae, Dryophthoridae and Curculionidae). List was made according to the newest literature sources of the weevils’ taxonomy. The all available labels’ data, as the number and sex of specimens are given. INTRODUCTION The Center for Small Grains Kragujevac (CSGK) is 107 years old research institution. During the history, it changed name and place many times. Now, it works as a part of Serbian Agricultural Research Institute. This scientific center is well known by genetically selected new sorts of small grains, particularly wheat and tritikale. Between other treasures the CSGK keeps collection of insects. Among other insects, the weevils have important place, as the phytophagous and important agricultural pests. MATERIAL AND METHODS The entomological collection of the CSGK contains quite old the weevil materials. They were carefully cleaned, checked, identified and registered in entomological laboratory on Faculty of Science University of Kragujevac, during the winter 2005. All label data are carefully (without any change) transcribed. Numbers of specimens are given. Sex was determined for each specimen, except 15 exemplars. -

Neocoenorhinidius cribrum (Desbrochers), Rhodocyrtus cribripennis (Desbrochers), Mechoris ungaricus (Herbst), Epirhynchites trojanus (Gyllenhal), E. smyrnensis (Desbrochers), Rhynchites bacchus (Linnaeus), R. lenaeus Faust and Byctiscus betulae Linnaeus are reported for the first time; and Lasiorhynchites freidbergi Legalov & Friedman and Epirhynchites friedmani Legalov are described as new. The Attelabidae, represented only by Attelabus nitens (Scopoli), are reported from Israel for the first time. A key to the Israeli species and figures of the habitus of all species, as well as of the male genitalia of most of the species are provided. In addition, we compared the diversity of spider and beetle assemblages between nests found in different reed habitats, and considered the position of nests (above water or dry ground). In this study we selected five different randomly chosen reed habitats: two mining ponds, two small canals and one large canal. Great Reed Warbler nests were collected either shortly after fledging, or after the clutch had failed. Altogether, 12 species of spider and 19 species of beetle were collected. In both groups there was no significant difference in abundance between successful, lost and cuckoo-parasitized nests; however, there was a significant difference in species richness between the three nest categories in spider assemblages, which was not the case in beetle assemblages. -

The State of the Orchards: the condition and significance of orchards in eastern England. A report by Paul Read and Tom Williamson on the Orchards East project, June 2021 1 Executive Summary • Orchards are not usually considered to have played a significant role in the history or culture of the eastern counties. But in fact, for centuries they were a ubiquitous feature of the region’s landscape, valued for their beauty as well as for the fruit they produced. Locally grown fruit were used to produce a range of distinctive local foods, as well as cider. • Orchards, at least those which are not intensively managed, also play an important role in sustaining biodiversity. This is especially true of those featuring old trees, even in small numbers. They provide habitats such as wood rot and fruit which are utilized by many native species, including rare ‘Red Data Book’ invertebrates. Both those orchards featuring tall trees on vigorous rootstocks, and those characterised by smaller, low-growing specimens, have considerable biodiversity value. • Before the middle of the nineteenth century most orchards were small and attached to farms, although some specialised commercial orchards also existed, especially in west Hertfordshire and the Fenland. The century after c.1850 saw a great expansion in fruit production, with the development of distinctive ‘orchard landscapes’ in a number of key areas, such as south-west Bedfordshire. • Since the mid-1950s, the area of orchards in eastern England has fallen dramatically, from c.48,000 acres (c. 19,400 hectares) to c.8,000 acres (c. 3,240 hectares) – a decline of around 83 per cent.
