BOX 2356 KETCHUM, ID 83340 (208) 622-5371 Trail Report July 24, 2014 - Update KRD Trailcrew completed construction of portions of Imperial and Greenhorn Trails on July 23. Both Imperial and Greenhorn Trails and also Castle Rock Trail (in the Warm Springs Drainage) are open as of July 24 to all users. Great Trails to check out this weekend! Note: The entire Beaver Creek Fire Area is open to hiking: use caution if hiking through the burned area: hazards such as falling snags and flash flooding exist. Current Ketchum Ranger District Trail Conditions as of 7/25/2014 Greenhorn Trailhead: • Cow Creek #180 – open, • Cow Creek Connector- #930- open, • Mahoney Ridge-#153- open • Red Warrior-Lodgepole - #310 ( open) – Thanks to Idaho Mountain Dirt bike Riders for clearing trails! • Greenhorn #156 – OPEN! As of July 23,2014 • Mahoney #821 –open • Lodgepole-Mahoney Connecter #819 –open • Imperial Trail #315– OPEN! As of July 23, 2014! Adam’s Gulch Trailhead: • Lake Creek Connector Trail # is open. • Lanes-Sunnyside Trail #316 is open. • Citizens Trail #143 open. • Pork Chop section of trail #142 is open. • Adams Gulch Loop #142 is open but has not been cleared above the “Pork Chop” - The Old Adams Gulch Road Trail is open. • Adams Gulch #177 open but has not been cleared, expect logs. • Shadyside Trail #317 is open. • Heidelberg Hill Trail # is open • Griffin Butte Trail #839 is open. • Eves Gulch #146 open • Forbidden Fruit - open and cleared by Wood River Bike Coalition Volunteers! Thanks! Boundary Trailhead-Trail Creek: • Trail Creek #305 is open. • Corral Creek Trail #325 is open. • Proctor Trail #119 is open • Aspen Loop Trail #841 is open. Fox Creek Trailhead and Lake Creek: • Harpers Trail #323 is open, • Fox Creek Loop Trail #149 is open • North Fork Loop Trail #303 open • Chocolate Gulch Trail #312 is Open • Oregon Gulch Trail #183: open. Expect to encounter sheep AT THE HIGHEST ELEVATION in this area July 18 – July 23. • Saddle Trail #326: Bald Mountain Trails: Chairlift in Service for Hikers and Bikers, tickets available at River Run Lodge • Bald Mountain Perimeter Trail: open • River Run Trail: open • Warm Springs: open Baker Lake Trailhead: OPEN as of JULY 3, 2014 - Norton Lake Trail, Apollo Trail and Baker Lake Trail. Note: Baker Lake Trail is open to HIKERS only. Please use caution on Baker Lake Trail, it has been reconstructed after the Beaver Ck Fire but hazards still exist such as falling snags. NOTE: Alden Trail and Osberg Ridge Trail are still closed due to the Beaver Creek Fire. Reconstruction of Osberg Trail will begin in the fall of 2014 and wil be completed in the summer of 2015, reopening is anticipated for August of 2015. Easley Gulch Trail #148 (aka “Curlies”) – open and cleared. Sheep will be near the upper portion of this trail July 24 -31. Warm Springs Trails: • Castle Rock Trail #140 is OPEN as an “Out and Back” from the Warm Springs Road Trailhead, no access from Baker Lake Trailhead yet! • Red Warrior Trail #152 Partially open Note: the south end (2.5 mile section) of this trail is CLOSED due to the Beaver Creek Fire. • Warfield Trail #151 open and cleared once again thanks to Jeff Mintz and friends for saw work. • Rooks Creek #145 open, mostly cleared, one or two trees across trail towards the bottom. THANKS TO Idaho Mountain Dirt Bike Riders for all their hard work reconstructing this trail. • Barr Gulch #168, Placer Creek Trail #141 are all CLOSED due to the Beaver Creek Fire. • Red Warrior-Warfield Connector #120 is open Deer Creek Trailhead: all trails originating from Deer Creek drainage are CLOSED due to the Beaver Creek Fire. Note: this area is open to hiking; Also note; No Camping is available in the Deer Creek Drainage. “Eastside” Trails: • Pioneer –Cabin Trail #122 open - Crews will be reconstructing sections of this trail July 20 –August 7 • Long Gulch #123 - no report yet • High Ridge Trail#124 . – open not yet cleared. Crews will be completing reconstructing sections this trail July 20 –August 7. • Taylor Canyon #324–open. East Fork of the Big Wood: • Hyndman Creek:open cleared for first 2 miles, expect snow patches above 9500 ft enroute to the Hyndman Peak • Johnstone Creek: open cleared . • North Fork Hyndman Trail: open Cleared, • Bear –Parker Trail: open cleared Expect sheep near the upper portions of Bear Gulch July 23-July 31 • Federal Gulch:open cleared • Timber Draw: partially open and cleared, avalanche snow across the trail 1.2 miles up.crews will be reconstructing the center portion of this trail July 25 –the end of the month. Fox Creek Rd: Open to trailhead Hyndman Creek Rd: Open to the trailhead Parker Gulch: Open , Sheep will be in this areas July 23 -28 Independence: Open Corral Creek Rd: Open to trailhead Trail Creek RD : Open to MacKay Park Creek: Open. Lake Creek: Open: Sheep will be in this area after July 25 -31. Taylor Canyon: Open Eagle Creek Road: Open- Mormon Hill : Open to the top. Deer Creek Rd: OPEN as of July 3, 2014 to the junction with Wolftone Road. Closed after Wolftone Road due to Beaver Creek Fire Panther Creek: Open as of July 3, 2014. Wolftone: OPEN as of July 3, 2014, Note: Only the road is open,trails leading from the end of Wolftone are still closed. North Fork Deer Creek: Closed for the summer due to Beaver Creek Fire Baker Creek Rd: Open as of July 2, 2014. Norton Creek Rd: Open as of July 2, 2014. East Fk of Baker Ck Rd.: Open - Expect to encounter sheep in this area July 23 – July 30 (near the top of Oregon Gulch Trail) Warm Springs Rd – Dollarhide Summit : OPEN OVER THE SUMMIT West Fork Warm Springs: Open 1.2 miles closed by avalanche debris. Barr Gulch: Closed East Fork Big Wood Road: Open . Hyndman Creek Road: Open to the Trailhead Cove Creek Rd: Open Sheep Report: July 24, 2014 Sheep will be moving through the following areas: Oregon Gulch trail #183 in the uppermost portions of the Kendal Gulch drainage, and Easly Gulch Trail (aka “Curlies” Trail) #148 in the Easley Creek drainage and adjacent to Esat Fork of Baker Creek Road #168 in the northerly un-burned portions of the East Fork of Baker Creek drainage for several days. Eagle Creek road (#144) from approximately Neal Canyon upstream thru approximately July 29 then in the lowermost portions of Taylor Gulch in the vicinity of the trailhead (road #249) in Taylor Gulch and trail # 324 and the Lake Creek road #142 after approximately July 29. The upper portions of the Cove Creek road (#124) and trail (#971) in the “Narrows” thru approximately July 25. After approximately July 25 the sheep may be encountered between Finley Gulch and small drainages to Big Witch Creek for several days. In the Horse Creek drainage thru approximately 7/24. Near the Boulder Creek road (#184) thru 7/25 then the road in the Silver Creek drainage (#174) after 7/25 for several days . Parker Gulch road (#267) and the Parker Gulch trail #121 for the next several days. Near the Milligan Gulch and Bear Gulch drainage divide in the East Fork of the Big Wood for several days. .
