ANTECEDENTES La Ley 8/2001, de 12 de julio, de Carreteras de Andalucía define en su artículo 3 la Red de Carreteras de Andalucía, que está constituida por las carreteras que discurriendo íntegramente por el territorio andaluz no estén comprendidas en la Red de Carreteras del Estado y se encuentren incluidas en el Catálogo de Carreteras de Andalucía. De acuerdo con la Ley, la Red de Carreteras de Andalucía está formada por las categorías de Red Autonómica y Red Provincial, en las que se integran la red viaria de titularidad de la Junta de Andalucía y la Red de titularidad de las Diputaciones Provinciales, respectivamente. La Red Autonómica, a su vez, comprende la Red Básica, la Red Intercomarcal y la Red Complementaria. El Catálogo de Carreteras de Andalucía es el instrumento público que sirve para la identificación e inventario de las carreteras que constituyen la Red de Carreteras de Andalucía, adscribiéndolas a las distintas categorías de la red (Red Autonómica y Red Provincial) y clasificándolas conforme a los criterios del texto legislativo.

RESUMEN: Dentro de la Geografía Urbana consideramos necesario hablar de las encrucijadas de los caminos reales en el extrarradio ciudadano por creer que muchos acontecimientos locales parten o fi nalizan en estos puntos. Desde el siglo XIV tienen importancia para los distintos Cabildos llevados de sus creencias religiosas y por la fe que les hace pensar en Dios como supremo guardián que cui- dará del viajero hasta la siguiente ciudad. Esto hace que se instalen cruces más o menos artísticas y de una gran variedad, generalmente de piedra, en las afueras de todos los núcleos de población, en los caminos reales que suelen ser los más transitados. Se pretende mover al viajero a confi ar en la Divina Providencia ante la inseguridad que pueda encontrar en el camino, dados los escasos medios existentes contra el bandidaje. El presente estudio versa sobre los que hubo en Málaga capital, de los que todavía se conserva uno en la plaza de la Cruz del Humilladero y que fueron cuatro, tantos como caminos reales partían de ella: a Granada, a Vélez-Málaga, a Antequera y hacia Churriana y Cártama.
