Offers in the region of £1,100,000 GENERAL INFORMATION Barton in the Beans is a hamlet in the Hinckley and Bosworth district of Leicestershire, England and forms part of the Shackerstone civil parish. Whilst there are no shops or pubs here, there is a Baptist Church, a regular bus service to Market Bosworth and Leicester and a post box. In the 18th century Barton in the Beans was an important centre for the Baptist Church and the minister at Barton was the notable clockmaker Samuel Deacon (1746-1816). The population in 1830 was 177 and the village has seen limited growth since and therefore retained it's appeal as a small hamlet. One of the earliest mentions of this place is in the Domesday Book where it is listed amongst the lands given to Hugh de Grandmesnil1 by the King (the land required half a plough and there were 2 acres (8,100 m2) of meadow). During the Middle Ages the land passed through many hands including several members of the family of Hastings. Whilst Barton itself has limited amenities, the nearby market town of Market Bosworth offers a full range of shopping, THE SITE schooling and recreational amenities as well as regular bus services to the surrounding major centres of employment. The market square is in the centre of the village, surrounded by shops, a bank and estate agents. A regular market takes place on Wednesdays. The village also has three schools, Market Bosworth Primary and Junior School, The Market Bosworth School, and the private Dixie Grammar School, three churches, Anglican, Catholic and Free Church, a fire station, and a hotel. There are three pubs, The Black Horse, The Dixie Arms Hotel and the Red Lion, one of Bosworth's oldest buildings; a fourth pub, The King William IV, has been converted into private residences. Market Bosworth Country Park and a water trust offer outside recreation, and the town has a golf course built in the surrounding fields. The site of the Battle of Bosworth is just a few minutes South of the town. Going out of Bosworth westwards on the B585, the steam Battlefield Line Railway runs at weekends from Shackerstone, Market Bosworth station and Shenton. There is an annual Rail Ale Festival centred on the Goods Shed at Market Bosworth Station on the last weekend in July. The Ashby Canal runs adjacent to the railway.
