He moves comfortably between mainstream modern, funky fusion, laid-back balladry, and his own experimental style and has enjoyed long-running collaborations with innovators like Dave Douglas, David Binney, Gary Burton, Danilo Perez and Maria Schneider. He received a Grammy nomination for “Best Jazz Instrumental Solo” on Schneider’s 2004 album “Concert In The Garden” and was recently nominated for a 2014 Grammy for the same award. McCaslin has also performed with Tom Harrell, Brian Blade, John Pattitucci, The Mingus Band, Luciana Souza and Pat Metheny, among others.
