PP A huge thank you...... to everyone who helped make the Paparoa show such a lovely and vibrant event. With the help of many hands the show can continue to thrive. I'm reluctant to name names as there were so many wonderful people who all played essential roles in the many facets of putting on this event. The fire party put on a wonderful day's entertainment with their competitions and the kids had a fantastic time on the waterslides. Hopefully the stall holders were happy with the amount of people that came through their sites. Chris Westlake's mini must have clocked up many miles going around and around - it was always full of happy riders. The mounted shooting was a new and popular event down at the western arena. Thanks to the weather for being perfect and Covid for keeping away. Thank you to every one who came along to the show, each and every one of you contribute to the atmosphere and overall success of the day. See pics back page. Rotary report... Our Rotarians have been able to start the year in a positive manner and have some great ideas for the next twelve months. We are planning on setting up a sailing group in Mangawhai for youngsters and one of our Rotarians has already ◦ Limestone & Metal Cartage purchased a yacht (a 9ft 6in Des Townson designed Starling). He is working on ◦ Truck & Digger Hire sprucing this up and it is hoped it will be the first of several that will enable us to build a sailing ◦ Farm Roads ◦ House Sites & ◦ Earthwork & Dams driveways group, working with the Mangawhai Fishing and Boating club, that will operate in the East. So ◦ Wrapped Silage & Hay watch this space. ◦ Cultivation We had hoped to have been able to start the cycle track at the Maungaturoto Primary school ◦ Fencing & Mulching by now but there has been a delay with the replacing of the driveway into the back of the Maize school. Once this is in place we can decide what our next steps will be. We are doing this in Silage conjunction with the parents and Year 6 students from last year. planting & A number of us were able to help at the Paparoa Show and promoted a different activity, harvesting “Bash a Bomb”, which appeared to be enjoyed by all who participated. We are really grateful 09 431 7556 to be able to be involved in a show like this where we can still enjoy both indoor and outdoor  021 720 590 activities with a great deal of relative freedom in comparison to other parts of the world. It was a pity that we had not been able to replace the washed out section of the track to Piroa Falls in time for the holidays, but it is essential that we complete this task in a manner that will provide long-lasting benefits. We believe we now have a plan in place which we will endeavour to implement early in March. It will be great to have that area more accessible to DekadeNZ all once more. Locally handmade As mentioned last month, our Driver Mentoring scheme is now under the umbrella of People Potential in Whangarei (see separate advertisement) and our mentors look forward to working CHOCOLATE with this organisation. Just a reminder though, it is an expectation that between obtaining the Learner’s and Restricted licence, people need to have completed approximately 120 hours of driving. The 12 free lessons our volunteer mentors give would be about ¼ of this time. We have noticed that the trainees who have been able to do a substantial amount of driving between the sessions we provide are able to approach their test in a much more positive and relaxed manner. If you would like to become involved with our group please don’t hesitate to ask any Rotarian about what is involved. Attendance is much more flexible than it used to be but we really enjoy working on projects that will benefit our community. Easter A time of celebration in the Christian Calendar. It is noted historically in the year 1AD that Jesus Christ was born, and at about the age of 33 years He was crucified by Roman soldiers on a cross outside Jerusalem in Israel. He then came back to life and appeared to many people, walking around Jerusalem. It was the start of people realizing that after death there is eternal life available to those who accepted Jesus Christ and a new law was set in place. A law based on love and not fear. Throughout the world, Christians acknowledge Easter as a special time, and are thankful that Jesus Christ cares about our eternal well being, from the beginning of time through 2021 and beyond. Our local Christian people will acknowledge Jesus Christ with a walk through Paparoa on Good Friday 2nd April at 9.00am.

5 Questions for Juleigh Parker Midwife How long have you lived in the area? 5 Years What brought you to the area? My partner Pete has always wanted to farm, and we still needed to be close for family in Auckland. We have a small farm of 50 acres with 20 steers. What do I do here? I am a Midwife self employed covering the Kaipara Region with a clinic in Paparoa. Specialising in home birth, and Whangarei and Wellsford birthing units. What do you like about the area? Love the landscape and the community while living rural but close to services. Love the warmer temperature too. What things would you like to see happen here? A new primary care birthing unit and better services for woman in the area including scans and advanced blood tests. PP
