Governor Holcomb outlines Next Level Connections and partnership with Toll

September 4, 2018 – Granger, Indiana – Today, Governor Holcomb announced Next Level Connections which amongst other projects, includes major upgrades to road infrastructure throughout . Next Level Connections will be supported by a one-time toll increase from October 5, 2018 for heavy vehicles (with three or more axles) traveling on the Indiana (ITR). There will be no changes to toll rates for passenger vehicles (with two axles). ITR heavy vehicle per mile toll rates will remain amongst the lowest in the country and the new toll rates are now posted on the ITR website at www.IndianaTollRoad.org.

In addition, ITR Concession Company LLC (ITRCC) has committed to delivering $50 million of capital enhancements on the ITR over the next three years. These enhancements are expected to result in improvements to customer safety and experience. Specifically, the projects will include the following:  Expanding the existing Intelligent Transportation System across the eastern and western sections;  Extending fiber optic cable along the full length of the ITR;  Increasing overnight truck parking capacity by over 20%;  Delivering a “smart truck parking” system; and  Implementing electric truck parking stations at all of the eight travel plazas.

Between 2016 and 2018, ITRCC invested over $300 million in capital upgrades on the ITR, including the reconstruction of 292 lane miles of pavement, upgrades to over 50 bridges, rebuilding all eight travel plazas along the ITR and implementation of an Intelligent Transportation System between Portage and Elkhart. “Governor Holcomb’s plan will provide Hoosier drivers with immediate benefits and we’re pleased to see the investment into Northern Indiana ”, commented Nic Barr, ITRCC Chief Executive Officer. “We’re equally committed to improving the roads in our region, and in addition to our $300 million investment since 2016, we have another $150 million of pavement and bridge upgrades planned over the next 5 to 6 years on the Indiana Toll Road”.
