ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

SARBODAYA is a Nonpartisan, Non-profit making independent non-government organization (NGO). It was established by a group of non-political, academic, and professional people in 2005 with a great motivation to work in the local regions especially in the Mid-West and Far Western part of the country for democracy, peace, human rights and community development. Since then, it is working on rights-based approach on issues such as social justice, peace, human rights, democratic development, environment conservation and community development. It works for the attainment of peace, development and justice through peoples’ meaningful participation and bottom-up approach.

In the years of armed conflict in Nepal, Sarbodaya demonstrated proven quality and strength towards building a greater public defence on human rights, democracy and community development. In the meantime, the organization has stood in front-line along with other like- minded organizations in opposing the non-democratic rule and rampant problem of impunity. It has worked under exceptionally difficult circumstances even in the remotest hilly regions of Nepal to improve the human rights situation and help attain peace, democracy and sustainable development for the community.

Sarbodaya is comprises of all the energetic intellectuals and likeminded group on human rights defenders, lawyers, gender experts, peace educators, sociologists, social leaders and trainers. Their common key activities include: promotion and protection of human rights, documentation, dissemination of information, education, communication, training, research, fact-finding, publication, litigation, legal assistance, and advocacy and election observation. Above all, the organization explores the theme on right based approach.

Sarbodaya has implemented the project Patarasi in Patarasi, Chumchaur, , Hanku, Tila Municipality of village (Kudari,Raralihi, Malikathata), Municipality of village (Lamra,Hanku, Tatopani) and Chandan Nath Municipality (Talium) in Jumla districts on work for human rights, democracy, peace, and justice, community development and Women empowerment, currently Sarbodaya is working on human rights, women, rights, education rights, land and food rights, democracy, local governance and Social audit. It has very good networking with local government as well as national organizations. It has registered in District Administration Office Jumla. Registration No is 05/062/063 and affiliated in social welfare council also No is 43046.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The General Assembly is a most important platform of Sarbodaya, to formulate policies and establish robust institutional structures and mechanisms. The general assembly is called once in a year but could be more than based on the requirement of the organization. The general assembly selects executive board, endorses organizational policies, plans and executes annual budget and programme, mobilizes human resources, and ensures governance system, policies and future plans.

Sarbodaya is governed by its executive committee which includes board members and financial monitoring committee, and programme management teams. These committees comply with policies, guiding principles of the organization and by prevailing law of the nation in order to ensure internal governance and efficient operational management practice.
