Artist by Heart Check out www.facebook.com/michael.hayward. www.mikerichdesign.com Bringing Our Park Back to the People Friendship Park was getting weathered and was in need of many repairs. We didn’t want the taxpayers to take on the entire burden of the expense. The solution? Waterboro Rec formed a Park Improvement Fund where many repairs are now being done with funds raised from donations and sponsorships! (Over $12,000 raised so far!) In the last few months we’ve begun completely remodeling the older, larger Snack Shack so we can resume the sale of concessions at our events! We’ve added service windows, a new roof, repaired the walls, installed new plumbing, rewired for 200amp electrical and more! A new spotlight was added to shine on our American Flag and lights are being added to the bandstand. At the little league field we’ve repainted the dugouts inside and out, tended to the field itself and are turning the old, smaller Snack Shack into storage for Shaker Valley Little League. However, it wasn’t just the Rec Department making all this happen. We worked cooperatively with our Department of Public Works, our Maintenance Department, Normand Electric and our biggest thanks to Dave Moreau, owner of ACH Plumbing and Heating who donated his time to redo all the plumbing! Our next big plans are to redo the playground area.

  • Blues Tour De Forst
    | 1 Monday, June 22, 2020 Blues Tour de Forst It’s June 2008. Tom Forst, a regional vice president at Cox Communications Group, is about to walk away from 25 years as a corporate suit to chase a lifelong passion. The dream to be a full-time musician had been on hold since his post-college touring days, circa 1974. It’s June 2008. Tom Forst, a regional vice president at Cox Communications Group, is about to walk away from 25 years as a corporate suit to chase a lifelong passion. The dream to be a full-time musician had been on hold since his post-college touring days, circa 1974. He recalls the exact moment his life changed course. “My wife was sitting in the living room. She pays the bills, and she said, ‘Look at that, I’m paying our last two $30,000 college tuition bills for our last two kids.’ I looked at her and said, ‘I’m going to quit.’” “My wife simply said, ‘Go ahead,’ and that’s kind of the way she is. Her attitude was, what’s the worst that can happen?” She only wanted assurances they wouldn’t starve. © 2021 CAPTRUST Financial Advisors Blues Tour de Forst | 1 | 2 So Forst, then 57, gave his six-month notice at Cox Communications. At the end of that year, he stepped away from legions of direct reports, the jet-setting lifestyle, power, prestige, and pay. Big pay. What followed is a wild ride of a second act—from boardroom to bandstand, Forst was on his way to be a successful indie blues musician.

! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February XX, 2015 ! RAY WYLIE HUBBARD SCARES UP MORE BADASS ROCKIN’ GRIT ’N’ GROOVE ON THE RUFFIAN’S MISFORTUNE, OUT APRIL 7 ON HIS OWN! BORDELLO RECORDS Renowned Texas songwriter/Americana hero returns with lean ’n’ mean follow-up to 2012’s triumphant The Grifter’s Hymnal; album soon to be followed by his uproarious, hair-raising autobiography,! A Life … Well, Lived. Co-produced by Hubbard and bassist George Reiff, The Ruffian’s Misfortune showcases Hubbard’s bluesy slide alongside the twin guitar leads ! of Gabe Rhodes and Hubbard’s son, Lucas WIMBERLEY, Texas — When it comes to down ’n’ dirty roots ’n’ roll, nobody in the wide world of Americana music today does it better than Ray Wylie Hubbard. Except, it seems, for Hubbard himself. After riding a decade-long career resurgence into the national spotlight with 2012’s acclaimed The Grifter’s Hymnal and his first ever appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman (“I didn’t want to peak too soon,” quips Hubbard, 68), the iconoclastic Texas songwriter is back to continue his hot streak with The Ruffian’s Misfortune — his 16th album !(and third on his own Bordello Records, via Thirty Tigers) — due out April 7, 2015. From his humble beginnings as an Oklahoma folkie in the ’60s to his wild ride through the ’70s progressive country movement, and onward through the honky-tonk fog of the ’80s to his sobriety-empowered comeback as a songwriter’s songwriter in the ’90s, Hubbard was already a bona fide legend by the time he really found his groove right at the turn of the century.

Wander among the festival’s seven stages and you can listen to everything from authentic Louisiana Cajun and Zydeco music to Chicago and West Coast Blues, from Latin to Rockabilly and Swing. In recent years, Gator By the Bay has also earned a stand-out reputation for bringing together stellar combinations of musicians in innovative mash-up performances, presenting musical groupings you won’t hear anywhere else. This year is no exception. On Saturday, May 7, San Diego’s own multiple gold guitarist Johnny Vernazza will share the Mardi Gras Stage with blues greats Roy Rogers and John Németh. He’s shared duets with such greats as John Lee Hooker and Allen Toussaint, and teamed up with the likes of Norton Buffalo and Ray Manzarek. Harmonica virtuoso, vocalist and songwriter John Németh has multiple Blues Music Awards nominations to his name, and his album, ‘Memphis Grease’, won Best Soul Blues Album at the 2015 Blues Music Awards. He has been nominated for the Blues Music Awards 2016 B.B. King Entertainer of the Year Award, to be given out on May 5.
