Angela Perez Baraquio has been a light to thousands of people. Her story is one like no other. As the eighth of ten children, Angie was born of Filipino immigrants. Thirty years later, their daughter won the prestigious titles of and Miss America and was able to travel all over the country to inspire others with her personal story of adversity, triumph, tragedy and hope. Angela broke ground and made history as the first Asian-American woman, the only Filipina woman, and the only teacher to win since the pageant’s inception in 1921. She is the founder of the Angela Perez Baraquio Education Foundation and is a credentialed teacher. In 2003, Angela was invited by President George W. and First Lady Laura Bush as a special guest to a state dinner at the White House honoring Philippine President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo. From 2006-2008 she served as a Presidential appointee to the President’s Council on Service and Civic Preparation. She and her husband reside in Southern along with their three sons and one daughter. Angie is currently principal at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School in Gardena, CA.
