Bellin College Students Practice Skills Abroad Study abroad experiences deepen skills, independence, confidence and resourcefulness for college students. A handful of Bellin College students took advantage of study abroad opportunities during Winter and Spring Break during the 2014-15 academic year to study nursing in China, Mexico, Haiti, and Brazil. The China Study Tour provided an opportunity for Bellin College students to understand traditional Chinese medicine and culture firsthand, and to gain knowledge of different healthcare systems and approaches to healthcare problems. They also had the opportunity to participate in rich cultural non-classroom activities, including clinical tours, cultural trips, and tours with Chinese nursing students. The Brazil and Mexico Study Tours provided the opportunity for Bellin College students to learn about the free public health systems in Central America. Students toured hospitals and clinics and observed alternative medicine techniques. Brazil provided tours of human breast milk banks and Mexico provided Spanish classes and a tour of a Women’s Hospital with a focus on NICU and cancer treatments. The Haiti Study Tour provided the opportunity to work with International Medical Relief. The students worked in various areas of Haiti to provide medical care services to the people of Haiti who do not have access to healthcare. Bellin College is always looking for more travel opportunities to offer students and partners with UW-Green Bay on various travel courses. Students also have the opportunity to go on travel courses offered at other schools or universities.
