BILL IRELAND JERRY SCATTINI UNL V Coach UNR Coach

The Big Game is here. A truly fitting way for the Rebels to close out the 1972 season by playing their arch-rival from the North --the University of Nevada, Reno. PAUL D. MCDERMOTT FRANK C. KERESTES/ Tradition, emotion, and pagaentry will highlight today's Homecoming festivities for the youthful Uni versity of Nevada, Las Vegas and both teams are "Super" hungry for a victory as winning means football supremacy in the Silver State and the winner will gain possession until next year of the Fremont Cannon. The Cannon has sounded joyfully whenever the Rebels have scored this season. UN LV comes into the game with a most frustrating 1-9 record with a team that has been called the "best team in the nation with a 1-9 record." The Wolf Pack, however, is having a respectable year, with a 5-4 record and is coming off two victor ies where they scored 48 points in each contest, defeating Chico State, 48-37, and Hayward State, 48-8. Both teams have shown that they can rise to the occasion and have played great games against nation ally-ranked teams. UNR was nipped by third ranked Cal Poly (SLO), 14-12, in a game where Reno had near ly 500 yards in total offense and last weekend UN LV nearly knocked off sixth-rated North Dakota, losing by a 17-13 score. This is the Third Annual Big Game tussle, and after losing the first battle in 1969, 30-28, UNLV has come on to capture the last two, 42-30, on Thanksgiving Day in Las Vegas in 1970 and 24-13 last year in Reno. Like any big rivalry game, you can throw the records out and just look for a hard-nose, emotional, and exciting contest played in the historic tradition of this great American game. COMPLETE INSURANCE PROTECTION Today will mark the final appearance for 18 Rebels who will end their careers in collegiate football. Three of the seniors are injured and not expected to see any action, but have contributed their part to the success of the UNLV program. The Rebel seniors this year are: Dan Arana (Number 10), Mike Anton (20), Patt Medchill (21), Mike Culp (23), Ron Husband (26), Floyd Toliver (29), Ira Porter (30), Joe Gallia (32), GOOD LUCK U.N.L.V.! Bill Hayes (50), Mike Lee (62), Frank Souza (66), Gary James (68), Jim Herman (71 ), Steve Custer (72), Marty Macy (76), Wayne Cleveland (79), Dan MacNaughton (88), and Cary Mitchell (89). To these men of Pride, we say "Thank You and Good Luck" ..... DON BORSACK UNLV CENTURY CLUB MEMBER Football season, as long and unhappy as it's been this season, finally comes to an end today with one final fling for the senior performers of both Univer sity of Nevada schools in the Big Game. For the Rebels of the University of Nevada, Las 76 MARTYMACY 77 STEVE JENKINS 78 EDCASTRO 79 WAYNE CLEVELAND 80 JACK HANSEN Vegas, it's a chance to hurl the frustrations of a 1-9 season and the resounding thunder of the Fremont TOTO PURCHASING & Cannon straight at the invaders from the north. For the Wolf Pack of Reno, it's a chance to assure SUPPLY CO INC a winning season, and avenge a loss to the Rebs in their own back yard in last year's game. 275 S. HIGHLAND And for us, it's a chance to finally end the agon izing brain damage caused by thinking up these ri diculous terms and phrases that tend not only to con fuse football fans, but also breed contributions to the Y AUGHN McDOWELL nearest mental hospital.
