The Terry Dillon Award, honoring the outstanding back or receiver, was established in 1964 following the accidental death of former Grizzly Terry Dillon. Dillon played defensive and offensive halfback for UM from 1960 to 1962. He started at defensive halfback for the National Football League Minnesota Vikings. The Paul Weskamp Award was established in memory of Paul Weskamp, a tackle on Ed Chinske’s 1954 Grizzlies. The award honors UM’s out standing lineman and was established by the citizens of Ronan, Montana. The Golden Helmet Award honors the hardest hitter on the team. It was set up on a nationwide basis by the CocaCola Company in 1967. The Larry Miller Award is given in memory of the great Grizzly lineman and wrestler who competed for UM in 1969 and 1970. Miller died in an automobile accident in 1974. The award honors the teams’ outstanding defensive lineman. The Steve Carlson award is given to the teams’ most valuable player in memory of the former Grizzly football player who died in 1977. Pat Norwood was a four year starter at offensive tackle for the Grizzlies (1978-82) from Billings, who died of cancer in 1983. This award is given to the Most Inspirational Player, who often times had to overcome an injury. The Tony Barbour award is given in memory of a Loyal Grizzly Fan. It is presented annually to a UM player, “who best exemplifies outstanding practice habits and makes an unselfish contribution to the betterment of the Grizzly Football Team. Enthusiasm, dedication and commitment are the key factors sought in the person receiving this award.” The Outstanding Linebacker award was inaugurated in 1990, and is given by an anonymous donor. • 1967 APBA PRO FOOTBALL SET ROSTER the Following Players Comprise the 1967 Season APBA Pro Football Player Card Set
1967 APBA PRO FOOTBALL SET ROSTER The following players comprise the 1967 season APBA Pro Football Player Card Set. The regular starters at each position are listed first and should be used most frequently. Realistic use of the players below will generate statistical results remarkably similar to those from real life. IMPORTANT: When a Red "K" appears in the R-column as the result on any kind of running play from scrimmage or on any return, roll the dice again, refer to the K-column, and use the number there for the result. When a player has a "K" in his R-column, he can never be used for kicking or punting. If the symbol "F-K" or "F-P" appears on a players card, it means that you use the K or P column when he recovers a fumble. Players in bold are starters. If there is a difference between the player's card and the roster sheet, always use the card information. The number in ()s after the player name is the number of cards that the player has in this set. See below for a more detailed explanation of new symbols on the cards. • WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? BJORN NITTMO? Kicker Bjorn Nittmo Chased His NFL Dream for More Than a Decade, Including a Stop in Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? BJORN NITTMO? Kicker Bjorn Nittmo chased his NFL dream for more than a decade, including a stop in training camp with the Buffalo Bills. He became a recurring character on 'Late Night with David Letterman.' A head injury left Nittmo so shattered that he walked out on his wife and four children. Years later, he continues to drop in, unannounced and unkempt, before taking off again. His estranged family wants him to get help before it's too late. By Tim Graham / News Sports Reporter Illustration by Daniel Zakroczemski / Buffalo News Published Sept. 1, 2016 Bjorn Nittmo is somewhere out there, presumably in the Arizona mountains, maybe installing home-satellite systems but almost certainly running from himself. Eleven years ago he stopped coming home to his wife and four children. The youngest was 6 months old. He had lost part of his memory and still complains about the constant howling in his head from a concussive whomp. He has filed for bankruptcy and faced at least six civil judgments or liens. At some point he began using a different name. There might be a sinister reason to take on an alias, or perhaps he simply grew tired of people asking if he was that Bjorn Nittmo. Yes, he’s the same guy David Letterman introduced in 1989 as “the only Bjorn Nittmo in the New Jersey phonebook.” In actuality he’s the only Bjorn Nittmo in the world, though he is more peculiar than even that. Nittmo was the left-footed, southern-drawled, Swedish placekicker the media treated like a geegaw from a Cracker Barrel store.

  • Back Before Bengalmania Cincinnati's First Brush with the Big Time
THE COFFIN CORNER: Vol. 11, No. 5 (1989) Back Before Bengalmania Cincinnati's First Brush With the Big Time by Bob Gill Sometimes the past pops up in the darnedest places. Last January, amid the Super Bowl hoopla that engulfed Cincinnati and all the southwestern Ohio, the Dayton Daily News (on a page headed "Bengalmania") ran a column by Bucky Albers about Cincinnati's first brush with big-time pro football: the 1937 Bengals of the American Football League. What the column doesn't say is that from 1936 to '41 Cincinnati was a hotbed of pro football activity. It's hard to fault Albers for that, though, because it's a story that very few people know. The tale begins with the formation of Midwest Football League in early 1936. This minor league grew from a regular circuit of teams that played each other in 1935. It included clubs in Louisville, Indianapolis, Dayton, Columbus, Springfield--and two in Cincinnati. Most were sponsored by local businesses, and the Cincinnati members were no exception. One was called the Model Shoes (Models for short), the other the Tresler Oils (or Treslers). The Models were the important team, featuring several former or future NFL players, including John Wiethe, an all-pro in 1939 and '40. They were coached by Hal Pennington and led on the field by a diminutive halfback named Leo Sack, who was second in the league in scoring with 42 points. They finished the regular season undefeated, but the league staged a Shaughnessy-style playoff afterward (first place against fourth, second against third, winners meet for the championship), and the Models lost the title game to the Louisville Tanks by the singular score of 2-0.

The Official Playing Rules of the NFL contains all current rules governing the playing of professional football that are in effect for the 2019 NFL season. Under the direction of Alberto Riveron, NFL Senior Vice President of Officiating, the project was led by Frank Szczepanik, NFL Officiating Special Projects Coordinator and NFL announcer Alvaro Martin, who together formed a committee comprised of some of the best-known and most respected Spanish- language NFL announcers to develop this version of the NFL Rulebook. The committee was comprised of Raul Allegre, Enrique Burak and Joaquin Castillo. “The translation of the NFL Rulebook to Spanish is part of the NFL’s ongoing effort to engage and educate Spanish-speaking fans and media, as well as a step towards developing officiating talent in Mexico and across Latin America,” Riveron said. “It was important to have Spanish-language NFL experts come together to collaborate on this project. We were excited to have such a talented team develop the first Spanish-language NFL Rulebook.” Martin is in his third decade announcing NFL games in Spanish, having previously served as ESPN’s Monday Night Football announcer for the ESPN Deportes Spanish-language U.S. broadcast, as well as for ESPN International’s broadcast to viewers in Latin America.
