We sent in a ‘policy paper’ setting out our concerns, and this resulted in a meeting of Ian Mitchell and Ken Hawkins with Tracy Jessop, Assistant Director Highways and Transport. This in turn has led to the setting up of 3 workshops with NCC, also involving people from CPRE, Open Spaces Society and U3A. The first meeting is due just as this Newsletter went to press, so it will be the next edition before we can report further. Ken Hawkins Governance Update Many members have been taking an interest in the governance changes proposed by the governance working group. The trustees are very grateful for the responses received to the consultation from many individuals, groups and areas. The trustees have agreed on a revised set of proposals, based on the feedback received and our own opinions, which will be published soon. However, it was agreed that this year’s General Council does not allow sufficient time to explain the reasoning behind the proposed changes and consult on their implementation, so the changes will be voted on at the 2016 general council, rather that this year’s meeting. The exception to this is “one member, one vote” which received broad support in the consultation, so this alone will be voted on at the 2015 GC Richard May Welcome to a new Area Officer I would like to welcome Julian White to the Area Council, after he was elected as both publicity officer and press officer at the recent Norfolk AGM. He hopes to meet some of you in future walks around the county. HOLT STATION, TOWN, & COUNTRY PARK EXPLORER Visit the Holt terminus of the North Norfolk Railway, pass the private Gresham’s School (old boys include the poet WH Auden and actor Stephen Fry ‐ the school’s theatre is open to the public when it hosts touring companies), explore the Georgian market town of Holt ‐ discover its shops, antiques, pubs and cafes ‐ then extend your visit into Holt Country Park with its observation tower and adventure playground (take a picnic and a bottle of wine!). Or detour along the Norfolk Coast Cycleway to visit two great country pubs. Easy riding route on traffic‐free paths and mainly quiet lanes. Distance: Around 5 miles there and back to the Holt Station of the North Norfolk Railway. Or around 9 miles there and back if you include a visit into the town or to Holt Country Park. Conditions: An easy riding and flat route. The first section to Holt Station is largely traffic‐free and suited to all ages. The sections into the town and the park are on‐road but our routes use quiet back streets. PLEASE TAKE CARE TO LOOK AHEAD FOR OBSTACLES WHEN RIDING ON TRAILS ‐ AND ADVISE THOSE WHO ARE BEHIND YOU Turn right on to the road out of the cycle hire centre and at the junction turn right again. Follow this road until it takes a sharp right, carry straight on at this point down a track with a sign saying 'No Tourers Beyond This Point'). Continue to the crossing of the North Norfolk Railway, cross over and continue straight on along the path.

Who Can Use Marriott’s Way? Marriott’s Way has something for everyone, from families and casual walkers to ramblers, joggers, cyclists and horse-riders. For those less mobile who use wheelchairs or mobility vehicles, there are suitable surfaces along much of its length. For cyclists and horse- riders, it is one of the best resources in Norfolk. It is available for use all year round and links usefully to the public rights of way network. 4 What Will I Find and See? Wonderful countryside, wildlife, public art and a wealth of local history. Marriott’s Way itself is a County Wildlife Site and passes through many interesting landscapes and wildlife-rich habitats, such as the Wensum river valley and Whitwell Common.
