Pic by Wan Rosli / HCM LONDON July 25: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah broke fast together with some Malaysian athletes who were here for the London Olympics. The occasion, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel was organised by the Malaysian High Commission in London and was attended by Malaysians living in London. The royal couple are here to attend the opening ceremony of the London Olympics and it is believed that they will also meet the rest of the Malaysian athletes at the Olympic Village. Among those who attended the event were Malaysia's hope to bring a medal back, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, and other members of the badminton squad, cyclists and coaches as well as their managers. Teenager does Malaysia proud NOTTINGHAM June 30: FOR 16-year-old Ahmad Aiman Asmayatim, the few metres that he ran through the streets of Nottingham carrying the Olympic torch on Thursday had taken him leaps and bounds in his record of personal achievements. The fourth former from Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR) in Ipoh, Perak, was chosen to represent Malaysia in carrying the torch under the International Inspiration programme, London 2012's international sports legacy programme. Twenty other youngsters from around the world were also chosen to be torchbearers. "I cannot describe the feeling. It's incredible and something that I will never ever forget," said an excited Aiman when asked to describe the moment he was handed the torch along the scenic canal route in Nottingham on the way to the city centre. The second child in a family of three said he knew about his nomination in March. He had been actively involved in International Inspiration programmes and trained as a young sports leader. He was selected after an interview by the British Council. "It was obvious it was his leadership qualities and his ability to solve problems that he was chosen to represent Malaysia," said Teing Tai Chee, a teacher from SMJK Shing Chung chosen to be Aiman's adult chaperone. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian 19-year-old diving queen Pandelela Rinong has been chosen to carry the Jalur Gemilang at the London Olympics, the first national female athlete to be accorded the honour. Her selection was officially announced by Malaysian Olympic contingent chef-de-mission Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid after a visit to the badminton squad training centre at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara yesterday. - NST/Zaharah Othman. Three Malaysians cycle to UK to watch the Olympic London July 25: Three Malaysian spent nearly 6 months cycling from Penang to London crossing through 18 countries along the way including Thailand, Laos, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany and France before reaching the United Kingdom in time for the London 2012 Olympics. The three cyclists who were under a program called 'Lebuh Downing ke Downing Street' made a courtesy call to Mr. Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission in Belgrave Square. Their cycling expedition, organised by St John Ambulance, started on Feb 4, 2012. The event was officiated by the club's Patron, His Excellency Dato' Sri Zakaria Sulong, The High Commissioner. The new couples sarong-race was introduced this year where each couple had to race in a sarong while having their legs tied together. Overall, it was a fun day out for all family members and friends with a variety of fun activities, games, raffles draw, great food and prizes. Nabil earlier won the Round 6 & 7 of Trade and Investment Offices the JK Racing Asia Series at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium while Irfan finished in Malaysian External Trade second place.
