I will put in my best to lift image of the AIGMF to further heights, with the help and cooperation of all. This issue of Kanch contains Company Profile of GM Glass Works No. 2, Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh, INDIA). This is a good beginning and I hope that it will become a regular feature in Kanch. The journal has now been registered as a bi-lingual (English & Hindi). AIGMF participated in glasstec, Dusseldorf GmbH, October 23-26, Indian Green Building Congress (IGBC), Hyderabad, October 30-Nov 01 and CeraGlass India, Jaipur, December 15-18, 2012. Glass being an energy intensive industry members are always anxious to know ways and means of conserving energy. With this in view AIGMF organized presentations on Innovations in Burner Design and Operations, by Mr. Petr Vojtech, Managing Director, Flamma Tec spolsro, Vsetin, Czech Republic and Waste Heat Recovery Solutions, by Mr. Sanjay B K, Siemens Ltd., Industrial Automation Division, India. A presentation was also made on Cluster Development by Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Principal Director, Centre for Development of Glass Industry, Firozabad. Dr. Devendra Kumar, Professor, Department of Ceramic Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University visited Firozabad in December, 2012 for interaction with industry representatives and to establish a relationship between academicians and entrepreneurs in glass industry. Ltd, Firozabad (UP) Kanch | Vol 6 | No. 1 | October-December 2012 5 About The All India Glass Manufacturers’ Federation The All India Glass Manufacturers' Federation was founded in 1944. The Federation is made up of five Regional Associations viz. Western India Glass Manufacturers' Association-Mumbai, Eastern India Glass Manufacturers' Association-Kolkata, U.P. Glass Manufacturers' Syndicate-Firozabad, Northern India Glass Manufacturers' Association-Sahibabad, Ghaziabad (UP) and South India Glass Manufacturers' Association-Hyderabad. The Federation was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 (No. 1 of 1956) as a Limited Company on 15-6-1970. The main aims & objects of the Federation are:- a) To encourage, promote and develop the manufacture of glass articles of all kinds and to safeguard and protect the interests of glass industry and glassware business in India. b) To form a common link amongst Glass Manufacturers' in India and thus develop a spirit of mutual help and co-operation with one another. c) To promote the study and research in Glass Technology. d) To consider all matters relating to the manufacture and marketing of glass articles in India and the question of export and import thereof. e) To devise ways and means for securing necessary supply of raw materials required for the manufacture of glass articles at comparatively lower prices and thus to decrease the cost of production and increase the national wealth. f) To collect necessary information and data and propagate it for the benefit of Glass Industry and trade in India. g) To make representations whenever necessary to the Union Govt. or any unit of the Union of India for the removal of difficulties that might hamper the trade of glass articles or for grant of special facilities for the Glass Industry. h) To draw Government or public attention to the difficulties in the way of Glass Industry and to solve other problems confronting it and to solicit their help and support through concerted action. i) To organise a united front on behalf of all glass manufacturers and thus strive to gain all those advantages which may not be possible through individual effort. All those engaged in the manufacture of glass and glass articles are enrolled as ‘Ordinary’ members of the AIGMF and those associated with the Glass Industry are enrolled as ‘Affiliate’ members of the Federation. Almost all glass manufacturers including many in the small Scale Sector are ‘Ordinary’ members of the Federation. Articles of Association of the AIGMF were amended in September 1992 to enroll foreign companies as Affiliate Members of the Federation. College of Engineering & Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh 202002, India ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT Study of indoor radon/thoron has been carried out in some dwellings of Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, India using LR-115 type II plastic track detectors. Radon is an invisible radioactive gas that occurs naturally in the environs. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soils and rocks. Lung cancer risk depends upon the concentration of radon and their decay products in air above recommendation level. In the present study the value of concentration of radon ranges from 31.5 to 141.4 Bqm -3 whereas the value of thoron concentration ranges from 9.3 to 75.2 Bqm -3. The value of radon progeny ranges from 3.4 to 15.3 Bqm -3 while the value of thoron progeny ranges from 3.3 to 27.3 Bqm -3. The inhalation dose varies from 0.15 to 0.71 mSv.y -1.The annual exposure (Rn + Tn) in terms of WLM ranges from 0.24 to 1.46 while annual exposure (Rn + Tn) in terms of mjhm -3 ranges from 0.85 to 5.17 with an average of 2.9. The life time fatality risk of the residents of the study area ranges from 0.72 × 10 -4 to 4.38 × 10 -4 with an average value of 2.5 × 10 -4.
