Note für Note ...

  • Eddie Who? - Eddie Harris Amerikansk Tenorsaxofonist, Født 20.10.1934 I Chicago, IL, D
Eddie Who? Spillede med bl.a. Cedar Walton i 7. Army Symphony Orchestra. Udsendte 1965 The in Sound med bl.a. hans egen komposition Freedom Jazz Dance, som siden er indgået i jazzens standardrepertoire. Flirtede med rock på Eddie Harris In the UK (Atlantic 1969). Spillede i 80'erne med bl.a. Kilde: Politikens Jazz Leksikon, 2003, red. Peter H. Larsen og Thorbjørn Sjøgren There's a guys (Chorus) You ought to know Eddie Harris ..

  • Chris Greene Quintet: the Popular, Longstanding Chicago Band on Preparing a Tribute to Eddie Harris
gram JAZZ PROMOTING AND NURTURING JAZZ IN CHICAGO APRIL 2020 WWW.JAZZINCHICAGO.ORG CHRIS GREENE QUINTET: THE POPULAR, LONGSTANDING CHICAGO BAND ON PREPARING A TRIBUTE TO EDDIE HARRIS JAZZCITY 2020 SOUL TO SOUL: A CELEBRATION OF EDDIE HARRIS COMPARED TO WHAT?! (EVENT CANCELED) WHEN THE JAZZ INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO DECIDED to make Eddie Harris the recipient of this year's ongoing JazzCity tribute, one artist and one band were an obvious choice to participate. Who better to capture the slippery, soulful, stylistically restless sound of the late, great tenor saxophonist Chris Greene and his quintet? As suggested by the title of the band's album, Boundary Issues, Greene has never had much use for staying in one place with Chris Greene Ensemble his music. "I don't know my place, I guess, which is why I'm always stepping outside of the so-called boundaries. With the music I like, I just can't help thinking, what would it be like if I did this, or this?" We would have expected to hear Greene and company – keyboardist Damian Espinosa, bassist Marc Piane, trumpeter John Moore and drummer Steve Corley – play popular Harris staples including "Compared to What," "Freedom Jazz Dance" and "Cold Duck Time" at Loyola Park on April 3rd. And if the spirit moved them, the band, which has been together since 2005, might have treated the crowd to one or all of those songs. But having taken a deep dive into Harris' compositions – which in many ways are as notable as his tenor saxophone inventions, something Greene hoped to convey to the audience – the saxophonist is more interested in exposing lesser-heard tunes.

  • Solo Album Trilogy
TORBEN SNEKKESTAD RELEASE: WINDS OF MOUTH • PLATEAU • THE REED TRUMPET FEBRUARY 19TH, 2016 solo album trilogy The trilogy “The Poetics of a Multiphonic Landscape” is saxophone wizard Torben Snekkestad’s latest output. With these three solo albums, Snekkestad fully presents us to his unmistakable textural saxophone language. It is the result of an artistic journey into the complex and captivating possibilities of the saxophone to produce multiple sonics simultaneously (multiphonics) and to unfold the possible poetics of these within the acoustic solo format. The main question Snekkestad asked himself in this process was: ‘What happens if the raw musical material, in the creation of a set of solo saxophone works, is based on the multiphonics only and what this material in itself suggest - unconcerned by any stylistic affiliation?’ This led Snekkestad to use underwater soundscapes as an inspiration for his acoustic explorations, an increased awareness of the complex multiple sonic’s intrinsic worth, and furthermore to make use of a hybrid instrument called ‘reed trumpet’. Experienced at the intersection of free improvisation and compositional praxis, these albums are further enriched through their deep immersion in extended techniques and subtle textural sonics. Although Snekkestad has played numerous solo concerts internationally, this is the first time his highly idiosyncratic solo playing is documented on record. The Poetics of a Multiphonic Landscape consist of the albums: TORBEN SNEKKESTAD - WINDS OF MOUTH (ILK 250LP/CD) An album composed by editing a series of improvisations - multi-track- ing of his instrumental arsenal of soprano and tenor saxophone, reed trumpet, slide trumpet and clarinet. TORBEN SNEKKESTAD - PLATEAU (ILK 251 LP/CD) Soprano and tenor saxophones excursions, mainly in the idiom of free improvisation.

AFTER WARNER BROS. WAS SOLD TO SEVEN ARTS PRODUCTIONS IN 1967 (FORMING WARNER BROS.-SEVEN ARTS), IT PURCHASED ATLANTIC RECORDS AS WELL AS ITS SUBSIDIARY ATCO RECORDS. IN 1969, THE WARNER BROS.-SEVEN ARTS COMPANY WAS SOLD TO THE KINNEY NATIONAL COMPANY. KINNEY MUSIC INTERNATIONAL (LATER CHANGING ITS NAME TO WARNER COMMUNICATIONS) COMBINED THE OPERATIONS OF ALL OF ITS RECORD LABELS, AND KINNEY CEO STEVE ROSS LED THE GROUP THROUGH ITS MOST SUCCESSFUL PERIOD, UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1994.
