Investigation on Relationships between Optical Properties and Cell Concentrations of Microalgae by Zhaoming Zhou A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Geophysical Engineering Montana Tech 2018 ii Abstracts Biofuel from microalgae is a very promising renewable energy resource. Growth of microalgae depends on ambient temperature, appropriate nutrients in water, and light condition for photosynthesis. As microalgae grow, the depth of light penetration decreases and the growing conditions at depth deteriorate. Monitoring of microalgae concentration during their growing phase is imperative to ensure efficiency in biomass production. Conventionally, cell concentration (number of cells per unit volume) of microalgae solution is estimated by taking images of samples under microscope and then counted and estimated using the Metallized Hemacytometer Hausser Bright-Linewe (MHHBL) method developed by Hausser Scientific. This method of measuring cell concentration of microalgal solution is time consuming and can be performed only in the laboratory.

  • Dengfeng Observatory, China
90 ICOMOS–IAU Thematic Study on Astronomical Heritage Archaeological/historical/heritage research: The Taosi site was first discovered in the 1950s. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, archaeologists excavated nine chiefly tombs with rich grave goods, together with large numbers of common burials and dwelling foundations. Archaeologists first discovered the walled towns of the Early and Middle Periods in 1999. The remains of the observatory were first discovered in 2003 and totally uncovered in 2004. Archaeoastronomical surveys were undertaken in 2005. This work has been published in a variety of Chinese journals. Chinese archaeoastronomers and archaeologists are currently conducting further collaborative research at Taosi Observatory, sponsored jointly by the Committee of Natural Science of China and the Academy of Science of China. The project, which is due to finish in 2011, has purchased the right to occupy the main field of the observatory site for two years. Main threats or potential threats to the sites: The most critical potential threat to the observatory site itself is from the burials of native villagers, which are placed randomly. The skyline formed by Taer Hill, which is a crucial part of the visual landscape since it contains the sunrise points, is potentially threatened by mining, which could cause the collapse of parts of the top of the hill. The government of Xiangfen County is currently trying to shut down some of the mines, but it is unclear whether a ban on mining could be policed effectively in the longer term. Management, interpretation and outreach: The county government is trying to purchase the land from the local farmers in order to carry out a conservation project as soon as possible.

Since his rule was legitimised by a mandate from heaven, a bad harvest could be interpreted as his fall from heaven's favour and threaten the stability of his reign. So, it was not without a measure of self-interest that the Emperor fervently prayed for a very good crop. Day 3: Beijing (B/L) Morning highlight is the Great Wall - Mutianyu.

  • Calculation and Analysis of the Loads of Dou-Gong Brackets on Ming Dynasty Wooden Buildings in China
ISSN 1330-3651 (Print), ISSN 1848-6339 (Online) https://doi.org/10.17559/TV-20200308070648 Preliminary communication Calculation and Analysis of the Loads of Dou-Gong Brackets on Ming Dynasty Wooden Buildings in China Chengya ZHANG, Yubo GAO*, Enze DUAN Abstract: Constructions of Chinese ancient wooden buildings not only perform a seismic behavior but also benefit stability of the whole structures under static loads to protect Chinese ancient wooden buildings. Based on the surveying and mapping of JinciMirror Terrace and the collected data, load on the Mirror Terrace is calculated to provide the accurate value of the load, which can be used to determine the repair plan and provide a reference for later calculation of similar ancient buildings. The static stability is analyzed to determine whether the main components of the Mirror Terrace have good performance, discover the structural ideas of the ancients during construction, and provide a basis for the protection and maintenance of the buildings. Keywords: ancient building; internal force; load range; Ming dynasty; static load 1 INTRODUCTION AND RESEARCH AIM certain Shaolin hall [11]. It can be seen that although the predecessors had systematic research and analysis in There has been a problem in the ancient building that calculation of the ancient building loads, they only started detailed and exact data on the weight of ancient building from the perspective of official practice [12, 13] and their roofs is lacking. This brought certain difficulties to the content is also based on the calculations made by the structural design and cultural relics repair work [1]. official method that are more applicable to official Without accurate data, the value of the roof load is buildings and the load calculation and analysis of non- determined by experience during structural design, which official buildings are lacking.
