G. Ballard’s contention, that ‘the act of intercourse is now always a model for something else,’ to show that Don DeLillo uses a particular sexual, cultural economy of adultery, understood in its many loaded cultural and literary contexts, as a model for semantic reproduction. I contend that DeLillo’s fiction evinces a promiscuous model of language that structurally reflects the myth of the adulterous triangle. The thesis makes a significant intervention into DeLillo scholarship by challenging Paul Maltby’s suggestion that DeLillo’s linguistic model is Romantic and pure. My analysis of the narrative operations of adultery in his work reveals the alternative promiscuous model. I discuss ten DeLillo novels and one play – Americana, Players, The Names, White Noise, Libra, Mao II, Underworld, the play Valparaiso, The Body Artist, Cosmopolis, and the pseudonymous Amazons – that feature adultery narratives.

    The Flag Project 2020 Catalog The Flag Project Celebrating New York This Spring, we asked people across the world to show their love for New York by designing flags that would be flown in a temporary art installation on the 193 poles surrounding the iconic Rink at Rockefeller Center. We invited artists of all abilities to help us dream up new ways to celebrate the diverse culture, vibrant energy, and strength of New York City. And celebrate New York we did – The Flag Project generated well over a thousand incredible responses, garnering creative and inspiring submissions, not just from New York and the U.S., but from across the world. The designs were hand-crafted, star-spangled, brilliantly bold, and digitally decorated – and they expressed a true love of the City and demonstrated a sense of community that is at the core of all Rockefeller Center does and believes in. The Flag Project helped us usher in a new era of togetherness and human connection amidst a difficult time. As the 19th century drew to a close, steel became readily available, and its structural strength permitted taller buildings. Additionally, the newly invented elevator permitted ready access to the upper floors of these taller buildings. These budding technologies allowed businesses to adapt to new structural layouts which permitted expansion upward, maintaining the same amount of space on the ground while providing greater space above. Eventually commercial buildings developed into a new form of architecture, the office building, whose intent was to provide an infrastructure where people could conduct their daily business independent of facilities for the handling of goods. The office buildings were different from the open lofts in that they were compartmentalized into individual spaces, allowing workers to have privacy from each other. In the 20th century, the ever-taller office buildings became known as skyscrapers. Their height limit was tested, economically and practically, as each developer tried to outdo the previous. New York became known as a city of skyscrapers. By the end of the 20th century, zoning regulations and the impact of skyscrapers on their surroundings and the environment began to control their popularity.
