Monday 11th May 2020 L.O. I can read and give an assessment of a story THE HERO’S JOURNEY is a template (a bit like a story mountain) that has been used for some of the greatest stories ever told, all the way back from ancient myths to modern classics like Narnia and Star wars. Over the next three weeks, we are going to use it to write our own story One of the reasons STAR WARS is such a great movie is it because it follows the HERO’S JOURNEY model. Today, you are going to read / watch this version of the Hero’s journey and see how it fits into the format for our first act! The subtitles just refer to the stages of the story - don’t worry about them yet! Just read the story and if you have internet access look up / click on the clips on youtube. ORDINARY WORLD Luke Skywalker was a poor and humble boy who lived with his aunt and uncle in a scorching and desolate planet world called Tatooine. His job was to fix robots on the family farm and and he spent his free time flying planes through the rocky canyons. He loved his aunt and uncle but dreamed of a more exciting and adventurous life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wJa1L1ZCqU Search for ‘Luke Skywalker binary sunset’ CALL TO ADVENTURE One day, Luke found a broken old R2 astromech droid. It was called R2-D2 and it was a mischievous, cheeky robot who made lots of bleeps and flashes.

  • Jabba's Palace Rules
Star Wars™ Customizable Card Game™ JABBA’S PALACE RULES SUPPLEMENT Jabba’s Palace, the fifth expansion set for the Star Wars™ Customizable Card Game™, contains 180 dramatic new cards depicting the exciting events of the opening scenes of Return of the Jedi™. Jabba’s Palace Location Deployment Rules — The vile gangster Jabba the Hutt operates a remote desert fortress, far away from Mos Eisley. The layout of Jabba’s Palace and other Tatooine sites is shown in the diagram above. New Mos Eisley Location Deployment Rule — To keep the three sites that represent the Mos Eisley spaceport together, the Tatooine: Mos Eisley site now has a special deployment rule: it may not be separated from the Cantina or Docking Bay 94 by any other exterior sites. Tatooine: Desert — This location’s game text prevents characters with landspeed less than 2 from moving away; however, it does not affect the movement of vehicles (and other kinds of movement, such as shuttling, landing or taking off). Characters with landspeed greater than 1 can move through the desert, but the average character needs some kind of assistance. (For example, a vehicle could be deployed to rescue characters trapped in the desert, and some interrupt cards temporarily add landspeed.) The Tatooine: Desert is the first non-unique location which may be used as a starting location. Thus, the rule on choosing locations at the start of the game is amended as follows: If players choose the same unique starting location, they set them aside temporarily and choose again. Jabba’s Palace: Audience Chamber — This new site location represents the center of operations for Jabba the Hutt’s crime syndicate, a very powerful organization with influence throughout the galaxy.

  • Hard to Believe It Is, but Taxes Lie at the Heart of the Star Wars Universe. In
Newton’s First Law of Prosperity: ‘Your wealth will not grow unless you actively nurture and monitor it!’ May the 21st Be With You, Yes? A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (okay, on May 21, 1980), The Empire Strikes Back introduced the world to Yoda, the oldest, most-powerful, and most syntactically-challenged Jedi knight in the universe. Yoda delighted audiences as he trained Luke Skywalker, launched him into battle against Darth Vader, and died peacefully at age 900, his body becoming one with the Force. Today, his fans remember Yoda by celebrating May 21 as National Talk Like Yoda Day. And celebrating we are this year by talking about taxes! Hard to believe it is, but taxes lie at the heart of the Star Wars universe. In Episode One: The Phantom Menace, in the very first paragraph of the opening crawl, we learned that taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems was in dispute. The Galactic Senate had imposed taxes to fight interplanetary pirates, and in response, the Trade Foundation had blockaded shipping to Naboo to pressure the Senate into repealing those taxes. The Supreme Chancellor dispatched two Jedi Knights to resolve the dispute…and the adventure begins! Yes, more to the story there is than that. The Sith Lord Darth Sidious — masquerading as Senator Palpatine — used the dispute to seize dictatorial powers, declare himself Emperor, lure Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side, commission a Death Star factory, and proceed to ravage the Galaxy. But really…dig down deep enough, past the epic space battles, light saber duels, and colorful aliens inhabiting Mos Eisley's cantina (aka "the bar scene"), and you'll find just another battle over tariffs.
