Men and Women Working Together for Real Change Men and women working together for real change November 2017 30% Club . The 30% Club is a global campaign that signs up Chairs and CEOs to take action to create a better balance of men and women at all levels of their organisations as a business imperative rather than a ‘women’s issue’. The Club launched in the UK in 2010 with a target of a minimum of 30% women on FTSE‐100 boards by 2015. There are 233 members of the UK Club and the proportion of female FTSE‐100 directors has risen from 12.5% to 27.9%*. As of 2016 the scope of the above target was extended to a minimum of 30% women on FTSE‐350 boards by end 2020 (currently at 24.5%*) . In tandem with the above –and in order to ensure that this 30% remains sustainable –we have also established a pipeline target of a minimum of 30% women at senior management level of FTSE‐100 companies by 2020 (currently 25.2% at Executive Committee + direct report levels**). The 30% Club is becoming an international community. It complements and amplifies individual company efforts and existing initiatives through collaboration, sharing of best practice, measurable goals and joined‐up actions. The 30% Club does not believe in mandatory quotas. Instead, the 30% Club is aiming for meaningful, sustainable, business‐ led change, as recommended by the Davies and Hampton‐Alexander Reviews. Scarce representation of women at senior levels is a global phenomenon. Local 30% Clubs have been launched in the US, Hong Kong, Ireland, Southern Africa, Australia, Malaysia, Canada, Italy, the GCC and Turkey.     Transparency at the top? The fourth report of senior pay and perks in UK universities History This is the fourth report on pay and perks at the top of British higher education institutions (HEIs) to be published by the University and College Union (UCU). It forms part of the union’s ongoing campaign for greater transparency in higher education, including the rationale behind senior pay rises. UCU submitted a Freedom of Information (FoI) request to 158 HEIs in October 2017. This followed similar requests submitted in 2016, 2015 and 2014. All requests were designed to shine a light on the arbitrary nature of senior pay and perks in universities, and support the union’s call for reform. The basis for this report The FoI request that forms the basis of this report was sent to 158 (HEIs). It requested details of vice-chancellors’ (or head of institution if known by a different title) salaries and those of other senior post-holders earning over £100,000 at the institution during the academic year of 2016/17 (1 August 2016 to 31 July 2017). It also asked for details of flights, spending on hotels, spending on expenses and if the vice-chancellor was provided with accommodation by the university. Finally, we requested to know whether or not the vice-chancellor was a member of the remuneration committee, and requested a copy of the most recently ratified minutes of the institution’s remuneration committee. Variety of responses The questions on expenditure on flights, hotels, expenses and accommodation for vice-chancellors elicited a huge variation in responses with many institutions deploying exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act to avoid providing data.

    The Commission on Scottish Devolution – the Calman Commission Standard Note: SN/PC/04744 Last updated: 4 June 2010 Author: Helen Holden Section Parliament and Constitution Centre This note provides background on the Commission on Scottish Devolution, chaired by Professor Sir Kenneth Calman. The Commission was an independent review of the experience of Scottish devolution since 1998 which had the support of both the UK Government and the Scottish Parliament. It was set up in March 2008 and had the following terms of reference: To review the provisions of the Scotland Act 1998 in the light of experience and to recommend any changes to the present constitutional arrangements that would enable the Scottish Parliament to serve the people of Scotland better, that would improve the financial accountability of the Scottish Parliament and that would continue to secure the position of Scotland within the United Kingdom”. It published its first report, The future of Scottish devolution within the Union: a first report, in December 2008 and its final report, Serving Scotland better: Scotland and the United Kingdom in the 21st century: final report, in June 2009. This note looks at the origins, work and recommendations of the Commission and responses to its reports. It also covers the United Kingdom Government’s formal response to the Commission’s recommendations, Scotland’s future in the United Kingdom: Building on ten years of Scottish devolution, published on 25 November 2009 and the proposal by the new Coalition Government in the Queen’s Speech on 25 May 2010 for legislation to implement recommendations from the Final Report of the Commission on Scottish Devolution.

The new campus will be known as the Aberystwyth Delegation Innovation and Diffusion Campus (AIDC). The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) will invest up to £14.5m to help establish the world leading Aberystwyth Innovation and 10 Enhancement Diffusion Campus for food and renewable energy and will be a key partner in of IT facilities delivering this ground-breaking project. Contributions from other stakeholders, including the University, are expected to bring the total investment in this project to over £35m.
