The European Senior Invitation Curling Championships will be played under World Curling Federation (WCF) rules and decisions by the Chief Umpire will be final. 2. In the men's Championship, following the Round Robin stage the top four teams from the Red and Blue sections will qualify for the quarter finals. The first ranked team in each section will play the fourth ranked team from the other, and the second ranked team from each section will play the third ranked team from the other. 3. In the women’s Championship the top two ranked teams from each section will qualify for the semi finals. 4. At the start of the first game a coin toss for choice of last stone in the first end will take place. Thereafter last stone in all remaining games will be shown on the official draw schedule at Greenacres 5. At the start of the first game only, a five minute practice for each team will take place and the team playing last stone will practice first. 6. At the Round Robin stage, 2 points will be awarded for a win, and 1 point for a draw. Ends won, shots up and total shots scored will count for ranking in the event of a tie. 7. All games will be 8 ends. At the knock-out stage extra ends will be played if necessary. 8. At the knock-out stage the higher ranked team in a game will be awarded the last stone at the first end with the ice sheet and colour of stone handle being determined by the Chief Umpire. 9. The team listed first in the draw will use the dark (red or blue) handled stones. The team listed second in the draw will use the light (yellow or white) handled stones.     Shortlist for 2014 Scottish Curling Awards YOUNG CURLER OF THE YEAR Gina Aitken This season Gina claimed her second consecutive Scottish Curling Mixed Doubles title with Bruce Mouat, and won her first Scottish Curling Junior women’s title. She represented Scotland at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships (Dumfries, Scotland) and World Junior Curling Championships (Flims, Switzerland). Gina also won two Asham Under 21 Slam events (Kinross and Greenacres), and came third overall in the European Junior Curling Tour, in which she won the Braehead leg of the event. Bruce Mouat Bruce claimed his second consecutive Scottish Curling Mixed Doubles title with Gina Aitken, and went on to represent Scotland at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Dumfries, Scotland. Bruce also dominated this year’s Asham Under 21 Slam, winning all three events at Kinross, Inverness and Lockerbie to win the grand slam title. Kyle Smith Kyle defended his Scottish Curling Junior title for a third consecutive year and went on to win SILVER at the World Junior Curling Championships in Flims, Switzerland. Kyle also won the Scottish Curling Mixed Championship and will represent Scotland at the European Mixed Curling Championship in Tårnby, Denmark in September 2014.     ISSUE24 Features Clubs&Rinks May 2014 Your Curler The Royal Caledonian Curling Club Member Ezine Scotland’s Women are World Senior Curling Champions Scotland’s Senior Women took gold in the World Senior Curling Women’s Championship after defeating Canada in a thrilling hard fought final with a score of 6-5 at Dumfries Ice Bowl on Wednesday 30th April. Scotland were represented at the competition by Team Cannon (Skip Christine Cannon, third Margaret Richardson, second Isobel Hannen, lead Janet Lindsay, supported by alternate Margaret Robertson and coach Jackie Lockhart) after they won the Scottish Curling Senior Women’s Championship at Hamilton in February. After securing five wins from a possible six games in the round-robin stages, Scotland went on to face Slovakia in the 2 v 3 Play-off game. Scotland’s Women took control of the game early on leading 6-2 by the 5th end and although Slovakia mounted a bit of a comeback in the second half of the game, Scotland’s early dominance proved too much and they went on to face USA in the Semi-Final. This was to be much more of a close run affair and in fact had to be decided in an extra end. The Scots managed to keep the front of the house clear and Christine Cannon with the hammer played a perfect hit and stick to take Scotland into the Final with a score of 5-4. In front of a packed Dumfries Ice Bowl, Scotland’s Senior Women had a thrilling encounter against Canada in the Final.

The trophy was presented by Clive Thomson, President of Glasgow Province to encourage a closer relationship between the two Provinces in Area 4. Dunbartonshire came out on top by the substantial margin of 66- 31. The main difference was that Glasgow had opened up the match to any individual curler in the Province whereas Dunbartonshire asked 8 clubs to provide a rink. However, a good day was had by all and Judith Thomson, Clive’s wife, presented David Wright (Bearsden Report by: Clive Thomson Ski Club), Dunbartonshire Province President, with the Thomson Quaich and the winning curlers with a miniature curling stone. EAST KILBRIDE AND HAREMYRES EIGHT ENDER Eight Ender scored by EK & Haremyres Ladies at Lanarkshire Ice Rink on 9th February during the West of Scotland Ladies League.
