186 COTSWOLD DISTRICT LOCAL PLAN 2011-2031 12 Other - Spatial Issues 12.1 Gloucester and Cheltenham Green Belt (POLICY SP1) 12.1.1 A very small part of the District, near Ullenwood, lies within the Gloucester and Cheltenham Green Belt. This 1.1 km2 area, which includes Crickley Hill Country Park, is situated on top of the Cotswold escarpment and is located entirely within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Policy SP1 GLOUCESTER AND CHELTENHAM GREEN BELT Inappropriate development within the Green Belt will not be permitted, having regard to national planning policy 12.1.2 National Planning Policy provides clear guidance on planning positively to enhance beneficial use of green belts, while making it clear that inappropriate development is harmful and should only be approved in very special circumstances. 12.1.3 The JCS authorities (Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury) undertook a review of the Green Belt in 2011, though it did not include the small area within Cotswold District. The review, however, concluded that the area adjacent to the Cotswolds makes a significant contribution to the purposes of the Green Belt because it “forms a critical connection between wider countryside to the east and west.” 12.2 Cotswold Airport (POLICY SP2) 12.2.1 The airfield formerly known as RAF Kemble straddles the administrative boundary between Cotswold District and Wiltshire and covers an area of some 210 hectares. In 2001, the MoD sold RAF Kemble in separate lots and by August 2009, a Certificate of Lawful Use was granted for an airport. Today, the airfield is operated commercially as Cotswold Airport and is accessed from the A433 Cirencester to Tetbury road in Cotswold District. -

CASTLE STUDIES GROUP NEWSLETTER Number 2 AUTUMN 1988 Dear Member First of all, may I apologise for the belated appearance of this Newsletter, which has become the casualty of a growing pile of paperwork in Exeter University. Second, you will immediately see that its contents are not exactly as anticipated when last year's Newsletter was produced. As a result of discussion among the Steering Committee, which had an. informal meeting after the first day of the conference at Leeds in May of this year, the original plan to publish the Register of Members separately has been abandoned. Instead, the information collected on numerous questionnaires between 1986 and 1988 5s presented here, in digested form, in the second Newsletter together wit a an up-dated list of members The questionnaire enclosed Invites you to send information to appear in next year's Newsletter, in conjunction with the publications list which is provided by John Kenyon, In this way, each Newsletter will provide an accumulating body of information. Third, you will find enclosed a Bankers Order Form, which you may prefer to use rather than send a cheque each year. Use of these forms will certainly help in cutting down the paperwork for your Secretary. If you have not yet renewed your subscription from April 1988, please do so very soon. While numerous comments have been received about the usefulness of the Newsletter it will not develop its full potential unless members send items for publication. The first two issues have been very "business" orientated in their content. Please remember to send local/regional/national/ international news which you think might be of interest, together with dates and venues of meetings or courses (adult education tutors please note!) which members might wish to attend. -

Huge RAF100 Commemorative Event Being Held at Cotswold Airport During the 'Cotswold Airport Revival Festival': 100 Aircraft
NEWS RELEASE April 2018 __________________________________________________________________________________ Huge RAF100 Commemorative Event being held at Cotswold Airport during the ‘Cotswold Airport Revival Festival’: 100 aircraft flying in to represent 100 years of the RAF! On 29th and 30th September Cotswold Airport is throwing open its gates to the public once again for its incredible vintage and wartime extravaganza, the ‘Cotswold Airport Revival Festival’. To mark this year’s centenary of the RAF and Cotswold Airport’s original RAF roots, the organisers have launched a major initiative to get 100 aircraft to fly in over the two-day event, to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force. Jo Welch, Head of Events at Cotswold Airport said: ‘This initiative is really exciting. We hope to attract many many different types of aircraft over the two days for everyone to see. We especially are interesting in vintage and military schemed aircraft, including helicopters, light aircraft and large and small jets. We are offering free landing for the duration of the event for these aircraft and free parking. Pilots and owners are welcome to camp if they wish to stay for the two days and bring any display materials to tell visitors all about their aircraft.’ There will be a dedicated display area where the aircraft will be parked for visitors to see. Each aircraft will be booked in in advance so there will be constant movements throughout both days for people to see in the skies above. (As with all aviation activity, this event is weather dependant – many vintage bi- planes for example are unable to fly in bad weather conditions.) Cotswold Airport started out life as an MOD base called RAF Kemble 80 years ago, was the first home of the famous Red Arrows.
