Gandhi Filmotsav Report Films Division Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Govt. of India 24- Dr. G Deshmukh Marg MUMBAI -400 026 Dated 6th October., 2020 FILM FESTIVAL TO CONCLUDE MAHATMA GANDHI SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS The Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October, 2018 marked the beginning of two years’ celebration of the sesquicentennial of Mahatma Gandhi which concluded on 2nd October, 2020. Films Division, a repository of rare live footage and documentaries on the Father of the Nation, began the 150 years of celebrating Mahatma by producing and screening a number short films on Gandhiji’s life, works and his ideals and philosophy across cinemas apart from organizing film festival, throughout 2018-2020, in various places in the country. As part of the grand finale of two years’ celebration of Gandhiji’s sesquicentennial, Films Division streamed a week-long ‘Gandhi Filmotsav’ on it’s Website and YouTube Channel from 26th September to 2nd October, 2020 at www.filmsdivision.org/ Documentary of the Week andhttps://www.youtube.com/user/FilmsDivision&www.cfsindia.org. The Filmotsav began with an animation film, Vaishnav Jan To…, a pictorial reflection of the bhajan immortalized by Mahatma Gandhi, followed by milestone documentaries, Dawn of Gandhian Era (20 min.), 85 Nayak Ni Pol Porbander (12min.), Then Came Gandhi (21min.), The Great Salt March (19min.), The Hundred Minutes (13 min.), Gandhiji : Through the eyes of a Cartoonist (9 min.) and Yug Devata (4min.), a sand animation film portraying Mahatma Gandhi's dream of Swachh Bharat. A high light of the festival was screening of Baapu Ne Kaha Tha (83 min.) and AbhiKal Hi Ki Baat Hai (42 min.), two sought-after films on Gandhiji, produced by Children’s Film Society of India. Contd. on Pg.-2/…… : 2 : In its efforts to take the Gandhi Filmotsav to the nook and corner of the country, Films Division has collaborated with *Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI), *the Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya (Central University), Wardha, *National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Bengaluru and Mumbai, India Tourism, Mumbai, *Rajiv Gandhi Central University, Arunachal Pradesh, *Science Media Centre, IISER Pune, *Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata, *A Central University and EMMRC – Sagar, *Khalsa College, Mumbai, *DBHRGFTI, Guwahati, Assam, *Federation of Film Societies of India Central Office, Kolkata,* BAFTNMP, Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Arts Science and Commerce, Vile Parle, Mumbai, *Salt Lake City Prayasam, Kolkata, *North East Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya, External Publicity & Public Diplomacy Division, MEA, New Delhi and *Western Railway, Mumbai by screening the FD package of documentaries and animation films on web site/social media platforms of these institutions/organizations from 26th September to 2nd October, 2020. Gandhi Filmotsav received 5189 views on FD’s social media platforms alone apart from the wide audience outreach through collaborating institutions and organisations. The online festival was widely covered by print, electronic and social media, as annexed. To mark the event, Films Division will present a weeklong "Gandhi Film Festival". Started on 26th September 2020 with an animation "Vaishnab Jana To", the festival will showcase documentaries like "Dawn of Gandhian Era", "Then came Gandhi", "The Great Salt March", "The Hundred Minutes",with a special attraction of two Children's Film Society produced films namely "Baapu Ne Kaha Tha" and "Abhi Kal Hi Ki Baat Hain". These films will be streamed till 2nd October 2020 on the website and YouTube Channel of Films Division. ***** .
