It has continuosly fuelled the socio-economic growth of the nation. Similarly South East Central Railway, since its inception, has been a partner in fostering socio-economic progress of Chhattisgarh. SECR was established on 1st April 2003. 46% of the total network under the control of SECR falls in Chhattisgarh. Along with SECR, East Coast Railway also serves Chhattisgarh. As a leading freight carrier zone, SECR has continuously provided fillip to the industrial growth of Chhattisgarh. Being mineral rich state, Chhattisgarh has immense requirement of a railway network expansion. To fulfill this requirement, Railways and Chhattisgarh government are working in close cooperation. Moreover, many projects are being executed jointly by State Government and Railways. In Chhattisgarh, many important decisions pertaining to Railway projects have been taken in last 7 years. On one hand railway connectivity is being extended to remote interiors of iron rich Rowghat. On the other hand, Coal rich Mand region of East Central Chhattisgarh is being tapped through two important corridors. Besides this, Railway board has given in principle approval to two new lines, Kharsia-Baloda Bazar-Naya Raipur-Durg and Katghora- Kawardha-Dongargarh. With completion of these projects, Railways network will expand to remote parts of Chhattisgarh which will open doors of development for these untouched areas. Department of Archaeology, Deccan College Post‐Graduate and Research Institute, Yerawada, Pune 411 006, Maharashtra, India (Email: [email protected]) Received: 08 September 2014; Accepted: 19 October 2014; Revised: 25 November 2014 Heritage: Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies in Archaeology 2 (2014): 405‐420 Abstract: This paper is the outcome of author’s doctoral research project entitled “Prehistoric Archaeology of Jonk River Basin in Odisha and Chhattisgarh”. The thesis (2013) was submitted to Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute, Pune. The study was carried out in the Jonk river basin, one of the major tributaries of the upper Mahanadi. Field investigations over five seasons (2007‐ 2012) in Jonk River have led to the discovery of 62 prehistoric sites. The stone tool assemblages from all the sites were systematically collected. The sampled lithic assemblages have been studied in detail to comprehend the lithic reduction sequence, raw material use and procurement strategy. In order to understand the settlement pattern and site formation processes remote sensing data have been intensively utilised. This has helped in understand spatial and geographic patterns of site occurrence in different geomorphological context. Keywords: Jonk River, Mahanadi, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Palaeolithic, Microlithic, Lithic Assemblage Introduction The river Jonk is a southern tributary of upper Mahanadi. The river flows through Nuwapada, and Bargarh districts of Odisha and Mahasamund and Raipur Districts of Chhattisgarh. The total length of the river is about 210 km and is fed by a number of tributaries viz. Silda, Bhandar, Kandajhari, Kolar, Machka, Chirar, Bagh, Bhuisa, Ama, Kantara, Karmel, Lamhar, and Maokha.

  • Human Development Report 2005
MkW- jeu flag ea=ky;] eq[;ea=h jk;iqj] NŸkhlx<+ MANTRALAYA, DR. RAMAN SINGH RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH CHIEF MINISTER Ph. - (O) 0771-2221000-01 Fax - 0771-2221306 Ph. - (R) 0771-2331000-01 MESSAGE Conventional wisdom always defi ned development in a uni-dimensional manner by considering only the economic growth. It was only when the concept of Human Development evolved, that the parameters of growth were enlarged to include social indicators coupled with economic variables. In this backdrop, with this Human Development Report, Chhattisgarh joins a selected band of States who have published such Human Development Reports. I would like to congratulate UNDP and the Planning Commission, Government of India for joining hands for preparing the First Human Development Report. I would also like to place on record my appreciation for the seminal role played by CHiPS (CHhattisgarh infotech and biotech Promotion Society) in the preparation of this Report. (DR. MESSAGE The main objective of the HDR is to provide a platform and trigger a debate to evolve the human development blueprint for the State of Chhattisgarh. The problem and challenges for development are many, but I am sure the Report will help us to focus on the core issues and crystalise a growth and development model which takes into account the hopes and aspirations of the local populace, helps retain its culture and heritage and restores the ecological balance by creating synergy between elements of nature, science and technology.

  • About Chhattisgarh
About Chhattisgarh Map Chhatisgarh state and districts (Stand 2007) At the time of separation from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh originally had 16 districts. Two new districts: Bijapur and Narayanpur were carved out on May 11, 2007[1] and nine new districts on Jan 1, 2012. The new districts have been created by carving out the existing districts to facilitate more targeted, focused and closer administration. These districts have been named Sukma, Kondagaon, Balod, Bemetara, Baloda Bazar, Gariaband, Mungeli, Surajpur and Balrampur[2] Contents [hide] 1 Background 2 Administrative history 3 Districts of Chhattisgarh 4 References 5 External links Background[edit] A district of an Indian state is an administrative geographical unit, headed by a district magistrate or a deputy commissioner, an officer belonging to the Indian Administrative Service. The district magistrate or the deputy commissioner is assisted by a number of officials belonging to different wings of the administrative services of the state. A superintendent of Police, an officer belonging to Indian Police Service is entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining law and order and related issues. Administrative history Before Indian independence, present-day Chhattisgarh state was divided between the Central Provinces and Berar, a province of British India, and a number of princely states in the north, south, and east, which were part of the Eastern States Agency. The British province encompassed the central portion of the state, and was made up of three districts, Raipur, Bilaspur, and Durg, which made up the Chhattisgarh Division of the Central Provinces. Durg District was created in 1906 out of the eastern portion of Raipur District.
