Rev Your Bev Day at the Boyd Tinsley Clay Court Classic *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE *** Rev Your Bev Day at the Boyd Tinsley Clay Court Classic Charlottesville, Virginia (4/27/2018) – QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia, Inc. (QCV) is pleased to report that it partnered with the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth (VFHY) in presenting the 2018 Rev Your Bev Day at the Boyd Tinsley tournament. This event was a big hit with the 50+ kids who were treated to fruit-infused sparkling water and cucumber- and lemon-infused tap water – tasty alternatives to sodas and juice that contain a lot of sugar. VFHY encourages their Rev Your Bev Day partners to incorporate extra ideas and activities to promote making healthy beverage choices. QCV supplemented the standard event offerings with fresh fruit and veggies to garnish the water. QCV also gave the kids Go Bananas! bracelets and Go Bananas! cards explaining the healthy benefits of water, cucumbers and berries. Lynda Harrill, QCV QuickStart Tennis Coordinator, says, “We talk to kids about the importance of drinking water and hydration all the time as part of our Go Bananas for QuickStart! campaign. Rev Your Bev Day gave us the opportunity to talk to kids, who participated in the free kids tennis clinic at the Tinsley tournament, about flavored water as an alternative to sugar-laden beverages and to promote eating lots of fruit. QCV Board member Barbara Bozsik did an awesome job preparing all the fresh fruit to make it appealing to kids. I had to laugh as Barbara passed around fruit while the kids were eating pizza and drinking bottled water at the end of the tennis event. The highlight of the day was getting Boyd Tinsley, tournament founder and violinist for the Dave Matthews Band, to try the water. He gave Rev Your Bev Day a real thumbs up!” **************************************************************************************************** QuickStart Tennis of Central Virginia is an all-volunteer, grassroots Community Tennis Association established in 2009 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization to promote, develop and grow QuickStart Tennis in the heart of Virginia for all beginners, especially underserved youth, using the kid-sized QuickStart Tennis format. Susan Greenbaum May 3rd, Wednesday 6pm The Memory Center “Summer Concert Series” Susan recently released her CD, “This Life,” on Compass Records Group. It is her fifth recording, and her first on Compass. The recording is already receiving significant national airplay on Americana, folk and country stations. Producers Alison Brown and Garry West were so pleased with the recording once it was completed that they decided to sign Greenbaum to their label. Country/Americana music website “Roughstock” calls her “a songwriting talent to be reckoned with,” comparing her writing and singing to Mary Chapin Carpenter and Bonnie Raitt. Susan’s four earlier CDs include three all-original recordings and one holiday collection, “You Are My Holiday.” Billboard has reviewed two songs from “Hey, Hey, Hey!” in the “Singles” column, saying that Susan’s “voice is a delight, strong, clear, and drenched in pleasing harmonies” and calling her “a startlingly adept writer…ripe for national airplay.” Prior to "Hey, Hey, Hey!" Susan released "Wake Up!" as a follow-up to her mostly acoustic debut CD, "Actual Size." Susan enjoyed overwhelming success on the tour across the Northeast, welcoming thousands of new fans. She and her band were also among select acts picked to perform at a recent Virginia Governor’s Inaugural Concert. Susan draws big, enthusiastic audiences who delight in her lively, diverse and powerful performances. Susan has appeared at such venues as The Bottom Line in NYC, The Birchmere, Bethlehem Musikfest, Floyd Fest, and Rams Head Tavern. In addition to touring with Jewel, Susan’s credits include performing an acoustic set with Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley; sharing bills with Jill Sobule; and opening for Kenny Loggins, Patty Griffin, Dar Williams, Janis Ian, Todd Snider, Jim Messina, Tuck and Patti, Iris DeMent, Lucy Kaplansky, Lloyd Cole and Catie Curtis.

  • Leroi Moore: a Biography
LEROI MOORE: A BIOGRAPHY by Bobby Daryl Fuson II A DOCTORAL DOCUMENT Presented to the Faculty of The Graduate College at the University of Nebraska In Partial Fulfillment of Requirements For the Degree of Doctor of Musical Arts Major: Music Under the Supervision of Professor Paul Haar Lincoln, Nebraska May, 2016 LEROI MOORE: A BIOGRAPHY Bobby Fuson II, D.M.A. University of Nebraska, 2016 Advisor: Paul Haar Few artists thrive at the crossroads of musicality, originality, and popularity. Musicians and critics often laud the first two and neglect the latter. Any imbalance in ratios between them that tips toward popularity is balanced by diminishing the creative elements. Saxophonist LeRoi Moore (1961-2008) of the Dave Matthews Band was one artist who balanced all three. While his musical output was prodigious very little is known about him. He was a reclusive figure onstage and in public, shunning interviews and at times literally the spotlight, despite being a founding member of one of the most commercially successful bands of the last two decades. Musically Moore was firmly planted in the jazz tradition for which his instrument has become known. A gifted improviser and arranger, the quality of his musical contributions was consistently high and pure. Moore’s music was creative, original, and popular in equal measure. A biography of his life and analysis of his works are essential to recognizing his place in the history of American music. A Great Look into Making a Successful Tour BandBy CustomerThis book is a great look into the odd combination of factors that happened as the stars aligned in just the right time to make the Dave Matthews Band. It did indeed take a lot of talent and even more hard work and personal sacrifice to get to where they are today. I enjoyed reading about the different band members backgrounds and families. I learned about how one should not trust lawyers, even those that are close friends, when success comes your way. I learned about the loving, religious background that influences the lyrics and sound of the band, and the history of touring that built them into a multi-million dollar act. I will probably read this book again in a year or two to see how my perspective of this band changes after their new album Away From the World is released. This book is very well written, and the author has taken a complex subject and made it easier to understand.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.

Tim Britt Acoustic, Blues, Alternative, Disco, Swing, whatever makes you dance and sing Call Starstruck for bookings (716)896-6666 Tim Britt, of Buffalo, NY is a self taught musician who got his start playing as a teen in the local clubs of his hometown of Whitesboro, NY. Earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from The University At Buffalo he chose to pursue the business of music and has since taken over the Buffalo area by storm. He is credited with writing and recording the theme song “Attention: Love Spreads” for the Move for ALS campaign in 2010. In 2011, Britt was named 2015’s Best Acoustic Act by Artvoice Best of Buffalo, and was awarded Best Original Solo Artist of 2012, 2013, and 2014 by Buffalo Nightlife Magazine. In March of 2014 he won the Shea’s Performing Arts Center’s Once “No City Without Music” contest in overwhelming fashion. He has shared the stage with Boyd Tinsley of The Dave Matthews Band and opened for such artists as Big Eyed Phish, Elephant Revival, Ryan Montbleau, Willie Nile, TR3 featuring Tim Reynolds, and Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees. With an engaging personality, and vocals that range from a soft vibrato to a raspy rocker, from an operatic falsetto to a mellow baritone, this solo acoustic act continually proves he can entertain a vast audience, and never fails to impress. His original songs have an appealing style of honesty with bluesy undertones, and range from love songs, to contagious crowd sing-alongs. When Tim isn’t playing an all original show he has a set list of covers from numerous decades and genres, including everything from the Beatles, to Dave Matthews, to Johnny Cash, to AC/DC, to Whitney Houston, to Mumford & Sons.

  • Dave Matthews Is a Lover, Not a Fighter. Yet When It Comes to Big
Dave Matthews is a lover, not a fighter. Yet when it comes to Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, he’s suddenly more pugilist than pacifist. “I keep saying, ‘I could either play you the record, or I could just punch you right in the face.’ It would be different, but there’s a similarity,” he insists. “Do you want to hear my new record, or should I just hit you?” Any slap-happiness could prove epidemic as fans and newcomers get their hands on Dave Matthews Band’s seventh studio long- player. Although the fairy tale-sounding album title is “a mouthful,” as Matthews admits, perhaps the key part of it to keep in mind at the outset is… big. Producer Rob Cavallo, who’s working with the group for the first time, isn’t known for tiny or timid recordings—not with a recent track record that includes Green Day’s American Idiot and Kid Rock’s Rock N Roll Jesus. Any stereotypes about a stock DMB sound immediately get all shook up in the wake of the opening track, “Shake Me Like a Monkey,” which features an Earth, Wind & Fire-style horn section that can only be described as punchy. That recurrent brassiness gives way to a string section on three tracks. But the largest part of the group’s largess may come from how Matthews, traditionally an acoustic guy, has fully embraced the electric guitar— not just in his own playing but that of highly regarded axeman/pal Tim Reynolds, who’s participating in a DMB studio project for the first time in more than a decade.
