Every year, we bring together an international group of judges for the Semi-finals and Final, made up of top professionals from the ballet world. And this year our esteemed panel represents both the northern and southern hemispheres. A huge amount of enthusiasm and hard work has gone into creating the competition this year, not least because it is returning to the beautiful city of Sydney for the first time in a decade. I am thrilled that our finalists will have the opportunity to perform at one of the world’s great venues, the Sydney Opera House. I would like to wish the very best of luck to all of the candidates, and to urge them to savour the experience and to take as much away from it as they can. -

November 8, 2018 !1 November 8, 2018 A Gala night at the Ballet is a showcase of classical & contemporary dance, featuring some of Australia’s most sought after performers in a collaboration between professional dance companies and local dance education provider, Port Macquarie Performing Arts. The central piece will be the re-staging of the 1999 full length ballet, Armistice, choreographed by Stacey Morgan and performed by dancers from Port Macquarie Performing Arts. In addition to this piece, diverssments will be performed as part of the Gala. Dancers from The Queensland Ballet, the West Australian Ballet, the Melbourne City Ballet and The Australian Ballet will converge on Port Macquarie for a three performance run in August, 2019. With an assortment of classical and contemporary pieces and mix of professional and student performers’ Gala night at the Ballet is sure to have something to entertain all dance lovers. The guest artists appearing as part of this Gala feature graduates from the Mid North Coast who have gone on to forge incredible careers in dance. Brendan Bradshaw (pictured) was a s t u d e n t o f F r a n c e s s c a O’Donnell, went on to study at The Australian Ballet School, to dance at the Royal New Zealand Ballet and is currently a Principal dancer and Choreographer in residence at the Melbourne City Ballet. -

ROYAL WINNIPEG BALLET REPERTOIRE 1 2 COVER: RWB COMPANY IN GISELLE, PHOTO COURTESY OF RWB ARCHIVES, LEFT: YOSHIKO KAMIKUSA, PHOTO BY SIMEON RUSNAK Royal Winnipeg Ballet A leading cultural institution, Royal Winnipeg Ballet has earned a national and international reputation for its impassioned artistry and technical virtuosity, and has received widespread critical acclaim for extraordinary performances of diverse classical and contemporary repertoires. Founded in 1939, Royal Winnipeg Ballet holds the distinction of being the first and only ballet company in North America to hold the “Royal” designation and is also one of the oldest ballet companies on the continent. In 1953, RWB received its royal title, the first granted under the reign of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II. The Royal Winnipeg Ballet first began to tour Canada in 1945; it completed its first American tour in 1954. In 1975, the RWB toured Israel and was the first Canadian ballet to visit the country. For its 70th anniversary, the RWB returned to Israel and was greeted by audiences in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa with resounding accolades. In 2014, RWB toured China as part of its 75th Anniversary Season. The RWB spends anywhere from five to 20 weeks a year on the road, performing in centres large and small. The RWB has performed in the United States, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and in every Canadian province. Over time, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet has expanded its repertoire to include bold, innovative new works that embody creative excellence and engage audiences in an ongoing commitment to the vitality of this unique art form. -

Gala Night at the Ballet Handbook Philosophy, Policies, and Procedures Dear Parents and Students, Port Macquarie Performing Arts would like to invite you to take part in our 2019 production, Gala Night at the Ballet. A Gala night at the Ballet is a showcase of classical & contemporary dance, featuring some of Australia’s most sought after performers in a collaboration between professional dance companies and Port Macquarie Performing Arts. The central piece will be the re-staging of the 1999 full length ballet, Armistice, choreographed by Stacey Morgan and performed by dancers who participate in two ballet classes per week at Port Macquarie Performing Arts. In addition to this piece, diverssments will be performed as part of the Gala. Dancers from The Queensland Ballet, the West Australian Ballet, the Melbourne City Ballet and The Australian Ballet will converge on Port Macquarie for a three performance run August 9 and 10, 2019. The PMPA Petite Performers and 6 years Superstars classes will combine to perform one Classical Ballet group routine, seperate to the production of Armistice. This will appear in Act 1 of the show, dancers will not be required to stay for the entire event and will have the opportunity to watch the remainder of the show after they have performed. Dedication to this production requires commitment from EVERY MEMBER of the cast, this commitment is the responsibility of both students and their parents. We’ve created this handbook in an effort to clarify what we expect from you in terms of commitments and responsibility to the show, the school, and other students and parents. -
