The Small Business Association’s program partner, The Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC), has provided small business assistance in Michigan for over 38 years. The I-69 Trade Corridor Regional Office of MI-SBDC, which serves a 7 county region, is located in Flint and hosted by Kettering University. Writing a Business Plan---Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Every business needs a business plan. While often business owners think that a plan is only necessary for financing purposes, a business plan fills a much larger and key essential role in business success. A well written plan provides a road map that serves to keep the business “on track” and focused on achieving business goals. A complete plan includes milestones that measure success at intervals over a three year period, provides financial projections, and includes an intentional, actionable marketing plan. This seminar includes all the steps in writing a plan that is useable and provides a solid foundation for a new or existing business. Pre-registration is required by Tuesday, May 2. Key components of this seminar include self-assessment (both personal and professional), identifying critical skills in leading and managing a business, developing a process for evaluation of the business concept and market potential, and determining start up costs and working capital needs. This seminar delivers a practical tool to help business owners be successful in creating awareness of their business and building a solid customer base. Chamber 5:01 is held quarterly as an after-hours networking event. Beginning at 5:01 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Chamber members gather to socialize and have a little fun. Held at member businesses. Watch the Chamber Calendar and Facebook page for dates and locations. The Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner and Awards Night honors community award recipients during a formal evening. Awards presented include the ATHENA Award; Outstanding Small, Medium and Large Business; The Citizen of the Year Award; Mission Award and The Ambassador Rising Star Award. Held in January each year. Attendance: 240 to 280 guests. The Annual Home Garden Business EXPO is an opportunity for SRCC Members to promote their business to thousands of area residents. More than 150 businesses and non-profit organizations participate in the show. The EXPO is a Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce event that is sponsored by the Shiawassee Home Builders Association and a presenting sponsor. Scheduled for March 4-5, 2017. Attendance: 2,500-3,000 guests. The Chamber Golf Classic is one of the largest golf outings in Shiawassee County. It is an all-day event with lunch, 18 holes of golf, awards dinner and great fun. The outing is played at the beautiful Owosso Country Club, located just north of Owosso. The Chamber Golf Classic is sponsored by COMLINK and Lennon Telephone Company. Scheduled for September 12, 2017. Attendance: 120 - 160 golfers and volunteers. Oktoberfest drew a crowd of over 1,900 visitors to Downtown Owosso. The event drew many people from around the state of Michigan and even from Ohio, Wisconsin and Toronto, Canada. Oktoberfest celebrates the spirit of friendship and honors Shiawassee County’s heritage and agricultural traditions. The 2017 event will feature the international touring polka band Lenny Gomulka and the Chicago Push from Maryland. Weekend activities will include live music, great local food, bed races, polka lessons, beer stein endurance contest and the Owosso Mayor’s ceremonial tapping of the keg at high noon on Saturday. Events for children include pumpkin-bowling, bounce houses, face painting and more. October 13-14, 2017. Chamber AM is held the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:15 a.m. This monthly membership breakfast is known for its networking value and community information updates. A very popular event with SRCC members! Attendance averages 70 per month, nearly 800 attendees each year. In 2017, all breakfast will be held at The Owosso Big Boy Restaurant. Topics @ Twelve (formerly Networking@Noon) monthly networking lunches are held at various restaurants throughout Shiawassee County. The event is held the last Tuesday of every month except December. A complete schedule with restaurant locations is available on the SRCC website. Attendance averages 50 per month, over 550 annually.
