Introduction 1.1 Woodsford Farms control three sites at Crossways, which are allocated for development within the West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland Pre-Submission Local Plan. These three sites are located within the 5km zone of the Dorset Heathlands Special Protection Area (SPA). A plan showing the three Woodsford Farms sites at Crossways and the location of the Heathlands is included in Appendix 1. 1.2 To provide certainty that the draft Local Plan can deliver housing at Crossways, Natural England submitted representations to the Pre-Submission Local Plan consultation advising that the Local Plan should identify the Suitable Area of Natural Green Space (SANGS) that will be needed to provide the level of mitigation required. Managing the risks is everyone’s business. The Wessex Regional Flood and Coastal Committee brings together representatives of each of the county and unitary councils in our area and also members with special and relevant experience appointed by the Environment Agency, to work together to reduce the risk of flooding to people in Wessex and to protect our very special coastline. This strategy sets out for the first time in one place our understanding of the nature of flood and coastal erosion risks in Wessex, and how we intend to address them. We will undoubtedly learn with experience, and the Committee intend to review the strategy every two years. -

Introduction to the Profile by the Bishop of Sherborne In Dorset we have been working hard to make rural ministry both a joy and a delight. In recent years significant changes have been made in the way clergy are supported and encouraged, leading to a greater sense of collegiality in our rural and our urban areas. The Dorchester Deanery, in which the Benefice is situated, seeks to be a supportive place bringing together the rural clergy with those in the County Town. There will be a warm welcome amongst this clergy grouping for whoever comes to this Benefice. The parishes here enjoy beautiful rural countryside yet are within easy reach of Dorchester. Whilst some of these parishes remain as they have been for hundreds of years, and contain some exquisite churches, Crossways, in particular, is an expanding village aimed at attracting a mixed population, including a large number of families, and the newly built church here, adjacent to the school, creates a significant opportunity for the church to open its doors to minister to all those who live in that community. -

Dorset Planning Consultant Ltd Dorchester Town Council RESPONSE TO THE DORSET COUNCIL LOCAL PLAN CONSULTATION, JANUARY 2021 Monday, 1 March 2021 Dorchester Town Council continues to strongly object to policy DOR13 (previously DOR15), recognising that this specific site carries a significant level of risk that it will fail to address the local needs of the town, nor will it produce a comprehensive, relevant, viable and sustainable development that supports the area’s future rather than destabilising it. In deciding how much housing is needed, the Government housing target is the starting point. That starting point does not take into account environmental constraints – which can and do impact on what may be sustainable. Yet despite the many environmental constraints, the Local Plan is proposing significantly (30%) more housing than its starting point of 30,481 dwellings. There is no clarity on how housing and employment growth are related, or any attempt to think through the potential outcomes of Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic. We seem to have inherited a strategy that simply knits together earlier drafts of the separate plans, and fails to consider the overall picture at either the county or functional area level. The Plan has not fully explored other options that may be more sustainable. One alternative would be to look at other locations for a new settlement. The Council suggests this work is ‘still do be done’ – so why commit to North Dorchester, now when there are other, potentially better, options out there? Some of these, such as North Woodsford, have been put forward already and on first sight appear to be more sustainable. -

Groundwater levels on the Chalk have remained firmly in the safe zone. 1 1.1.2 Tidal situation High tides during mid-September led to a number of Flood Alerts being issued along the Somerset Coast at Porlock Weir, Severn Beach, Dunster and Pill and Shirehampton. The St Jude storm on the 27 October led to Flood Alerts being issued for Christchurch Harbour.
