    2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships January 11-21, 2021 Las Vegas | The Orleans Arena Media Information and Story Ideas The U.S. Figure Skating Championships, held annually since 1914, is the nation’s most prestigious figure skating event. The competition crowns U.S. champions in ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dance at the senior and junior levels. The 2021 U.S. Championships will serve as the final qualifying event prior to selecting and announcing the U.S. World Figure Skating Team that will represent Team USA at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm. The marquee event was relocated from San Jose, California, to Las Vegas late in the fall due to COVID-19 considerations. San Jose meanwhile was awarded the 2023 Toyota U.S. Championships, marking the fourth time that the city will host the event. Competition and practice for the junior and Championship competitions will be held at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The event will take place in a bubble format with no spectators. Las Vegas, Nevada This is the first time the U.S. Championships will be held in Las Vegas. The entertainment capital of the world most recently hosted 2020 Guaranteed Rate Skate America and 2019 Skate America presented by American Cruise Lines. The Orleans Arena The Orleans Arena is one of the nation’s leading mid-size arenas. It is located at The Orleans Hotel and Casino and is operated by Coast Casinos, a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming Corporation. The arena is the home to the Vegas Rollers of World Team Tennis since 2019, and plays host to concerts, sporting events and NCAA Tournaments.

The Four Continents Championships 2017 serve as a test event for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir (CAN) dance off with gold Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir of Canada danced off with the gold medal, taking home their third Four Continents title. USA’s Maia Shibutani/ Alex Shibutani earned the silver medal and their teammates Madison Chock/Evan Bates claimed the bronze. Virtue/Moir delivered a strong Free Dance to “Pilgrims on a Long Journey” and “Latch”, collecting a level four for their lifts, the twizzles, the diagonal step sequence and the spin and a level three for the circular step sequence. The 2014 Olympic silver medalists set a new personal best with 117.20 points and accumulated 196.95 points overall. “What an honor for Tessa and I to be Four Continents Champions. It was obviously a goal of ours just to qualify for this event at the beginning of the year. It was such a great competition. Today was an interesting performance for us as we left a couple of points on the board, but it was really special for us to be in that venue.

Grand Prix debutant Camden Pulkinen (USA) surprisingly came second ahead of Canada’s Nam Nguyen. Hanyu opened his dramatic performance to “Otonal” by Raul di Blasio with a quadruple Salchow and a triple Axel followed by a quadruple-triple toeloop combination. The 2019 world silver medalist collected a level four for his spins and earned a mammoth 109.60 points to the delight of the enthralled crowd. “It was not so great, but I felt I did my best today. Performing to “Fix You” by Coldplay, Shibutani/Shibutani put out an excellent Free Dance, earning level fours for all elements but the circular footwork that was graded a level three. The brother-and- sister team scored 108.76 points, setting a new personal best for themselves, and totaled 181.62 points. “It [winning] is a really gratifying feeling. We’ve been working so hard over the past four seasons in particular, but this season we’ve been really focused on making sure we make the most of every opportunity. This was a great opportunity today and we’re very excited looking forward to Worlds”, Alex Shibutani commented. Chock/Bates delivered a strong performance of their Rachmaninov Free Dance as well. The 2015 World silver medalists picked up a level four for their lifts, twizzles and spin while the two step sequences merited a level three.
