  • The Slugs of Bulgaria (Arionidae, Milacidae, Agriolimacidae
POLSKA AKADEMIA NAUK INSTYTUT ZOOLOGII ANNALES ZOOLOGICI Tom 37 Warszawa, 20 X 1983 Nr 3 A n d rzej W ik t o r The slugs of Bulgaria (A rionidae , M ilacidae, Limacidae, Agriolimacidae — G astropoda , Stylommatophora) [With 118 text-figures and 31 maps] Abstract. All previously known Bulgarian slugs from the Arionidae, Milacidae, Limacidae and Agriolimacidae families have been discussed in this paper. It is based on many years of individual field research, examination of all accessible private and museum collections as well as on critical analysis of the published data. The taxa from families to species are sup plied with synonymy, descriptions of external morphology, anatomy, bionomics, distribution and all records from Bulgaria. It also includes the original key to all species. The illustrative material comprises 118 drawings, including 116 made by the author, and maps of localities on UTM grid. The occurrence of 37 slug species was ascertained, including 1 species (Tandonia pirinia- na) which is quite new for scientists. The occurrence of other 4 species known from publications could not bo established. Basing on the variety of slug fauna two zoogeographical limits were indicated. One separating the Stara Pianina Mountains from south-western massifs (Pirin, Rila, Rodopi, Vitosha. Mountains), the other running across the range of Stara Pianina in the^area of Shipka pass. INTRODUCTION Like other Balkan countries, Bulgaria is an area of Palearctic especially interesting in respect to malacofauna. So far little investigation has been carried out on molluscs of that country and very few papers on slugs (mostly contributions) were published. The papers by B a b o r (1898) and J u r in ić (1906) are the oldest ones.

Natur u. Heimat, 26. ABSTRACT In this work, a bibliographic analysis was performed to find out the distributions of gastropods in the south of the Iberian Peninsula to find out if any area or distribution of any species has not been sufficiently sampled or analyzed.

Schileyko* Abstract This contribution shows that "var. major" M artens , 1889 of Helix cypria L. Pfeiffer, 1847 belongs to the subgenus Longiphallus (gen. Oxychilus) and deserves the rank of independent species. Introduction During a research stay in the mollusk collection of the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (NHMW) several unidentified pulmonate snails were studied. One specimen from Gre ece (Ikaria Island) was identified as Helix cypria var. major. It is redescribed and its taxonomic position reappraised. Material and methods One subadult specimen of Oxychilus cyprius var. major found in the collection of the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien was dissected and drawings of the reproductive tract were made using a Wild M5 stereo microscope equipped with a camera lucida. Oxychilus (Longiphallus) major (Martens, 1889) comb.n. Hyalina cypria var. major Martens , 1889: 189. Material: 1 nearly adult specimen from "Insel Ikaria, Umg[ebung] v[on] Evdilos, 28.V.1987", coll. Passeig de la Petxina, 15. 46008 (Valencia) Abstract This paper compares two western Mediterranean species so far included in the genus Parmacella, P. deshayesii from North Africa and P. valenciennii from the south of the Iberian Peninsula. These show many distinctive features that we believe are sufficient to consider them not only as separate species but also to be in different subgenera. Arguments about their conspecificity are clarified and neotypes designated for both. Taxonomic studies of the species of Parmacella has allowed us to propose a revision of the systematics of the family Parmacellidae and to restructure it into two genera: Parmacella and Drusia, the latter an available old genus-name, which in turn is divided into two subgenera Drusia s. str. and Escutiella subgen. nov. We also include a taxonomic key to the family Parmacellidae using the proposed new systematic scenario. Key words Parmacellidae, Parmacella, Drusia, Escutiella, nov. subgen., systematic, Iberian Peninsula, Morocco, Algeria. INTRODUCTION running from Egypt to the Caucasus. Therefore we can distinguish two disjoint areas in their dis- The family Parmacellidae P. Fischer 1856 includes tribution: the western, from the Canary Islands large slugs with a rough skin, a large and grainy to Egypt; and the eastern from the Caucasus to mantle, keeled back and sole lacking a caudal Afghanistan, each having distinct faunas.
