INTRODUCCIÓN a Lo Largo De Los Años La Ciencia Y Tecnología Han Ido INTRODUCCIÓN A lo largo de los años la ciencia y tecnología han ido evolucionando con la finalidad de satisfacer las necesidades de la población, que a su vez se han vuelto cada día más exigentes en el ámbito militar, médico y social, lo que dio como resultado la robótica; esto con el fin de mejorar la calidad de vida de cada persona y obtener mayores conocimientos sobre la capacidad de los seres inteligentes para superar los contraflujos de la vida. Esto se ha convertido en el factor principal para la base de esta investigación, debido a que la ciencia está ligada al avance de la tecnología y búsqueda de nuevas alternativas que favorecen y mejoren las condiciones de vida de cada individuo, además del impacto que provocaría la introducción de la tecnología en la vida diaria y la mejora en la comunicación entre humanos – humanoides logrando una interacción social benefactora. Con el planteamiento de estos factores surgen diversas interrogantes como son el origen de la robótica, sus desarrollos y sus aplicaciones, tomando en cuenta que sus primeras aplicaciones fueron médicas, podemos creer que se inició esta evolución con base en la necesidad de extender la vida y aumentar la calidad de esta. 1 1. ANTECEDENTES DE LA ROBÓTICA “Desde mediados del siglo XX empezó el desarrollo de la robótica con el objetivo de hacer más fácil la vida; sin embargo, los científicos insisten en crear artefactos que cada vez cuenten con más cualidades parecidas a la de los humanos”1. Allá por 1950, Isaac Asimov consideró la existencia de robots trabajando como niñeras. Publicó su primera obra en contener un reglamento para proteger a la humanidad del poder de los autómatas: Yo, robot. Desde el lanzamiento del libro, se convirtió en un referente para los fanáticos de la ciencia ficción y retomó el viejo temor que las máquinas se levantaran ante su creador. Tal vez la creación de la inteligencia artificial superará a la del hombre y esto implicará un cambio comparable con la formación del individuo mismo. No significa que moriremos asesinados por un ejército de robots, simplemente los modelos de vida conocidos actualmente, quedarán descartados y comenzaremos a regirnos por una nueva realidad. 1.1. Joseph F. Engelberger Joseph F. Engelberger (nació el 27 de Julio de 1925, en Nueva York) fue un físico, ingeniero y emprendedor conocido como el “Padre de la Robótica Industrial. Con la autorización de la patente concedida al inventor George Devol, Engengelberger desarrolló el primer robot Figura 1. Posteriormente trabajó como emprendedor y gran defensor de la tecnología robótica, además de las fábricas, en diversos campos, incluyendo las industrias de servicios, el cuidado de la salud, y la exploración espacial (Industrial estadounidense). Presidente de Transactions Research Corps, empresa dedicada a la aplicación industrial de la cibernética, desarrolló a partir de la conexión de un ordenador a un sistema de brazos articulados la primera cadena robotizada para la fabricación de 1 Gutiérrez, Gabriel, “Muy interesante”, p. 55. 2 carrocerías de automóviles. Y en 1956, Engelberger fundó Unimation Inc., Robotics en servicio (ISBN 9780262050425) en 1989. 1.2. Karen Kapek Nacido el 25 de diciembre de 1938, Praga, Checoslovaquia. Fue uno de los escritores en lengua checa más importantes del siglo XX. Además utilizó la palabra robot por primera vez para aludir un artefacto creado por el hombre, en su obra RUR (Rossums Universal Robots) en 1921. Pese a la leyenda, el término se lo farfulló su hermano Josef entre pinceles cuando Karen le preguntaba sobre cómo llamar a esos seres de su nueva obra teatral. El término en su lengua materna se refería al trabajo pesado o al que realizaba la servidumbre. Para entender mejor: RUR – en checo – es una obra teatral de ciencia ficción, escrita por Karen kapek en 1920, se estrenó en 1921 en el Teatro Nacional de Praga y posteriormente en Londres y Nueva York en 1922. Es conocida por contener la primera aparición del término “robot” y que vendría a sustituir a “automat”, que había empleado Josef en el relato corto de 1917 Opilec (El borracho). 1.3. Isaac Asimov Asimov creó la palabra robótica en un artículo llamado “La palabra que inventé” y en el cual cuenta que en ese momento le pareció natural agregar el sufijo – Ica, muy utilizado en la física para nombrar una disciplina (como en dinámica, hidráulica, etc.), y hablar de robótica. No se había percatado que esta simple operación significaba la llegada de una nueva palabra. Doce años más tarde, el escritor descubrió que “robótica” no figuraba en ningún diccionario, y se adjudicó la invención. En 1973 el Diccionario Barnhard del Nuevo Inglés agregó la palabra. La obra más famosa de Asimov es la Saga de la fundación, también conocida como Trilogía o Ciclo de Trántor, que forma parte de la serie del Imperio Galáctico y que más tarde combinó con su otra gran serie sobre los robots. También escribió obras de misterio y fantasía, así como una gran cantidad de textos de no ficción. En total, firmó más de 500 volúmenes y unas 9000 cartas o postales. Sus trabajos han sido publicaciones en 9 de las 10 categorías del Sistema Dewey de clasificación. En ciencia ficción las tres leyes de la robótica son un conjunto de normas escritas por Isaac Asimov, que la mayoría de los robots de sus novelas y 3 cuentos están diseñados para cumplir. En ese universo, las leyes son “formulaciones matemáticas impresas en los senderos positrónicos del cerebro” de los robots (líneas de código del programa de funcionamiento del robot guardadas en la ROM del mismo). Aparecidas por primera vez en el relato Runaround (1942), establecen lo siguiente: 1. Un robot no puede hacer daño a un ser humano o, por inacción, permitir que un ser humano sufra daño. 2. Un robot debe obedecer las órdenes dadas por los seres humanos, excepto si estas órdenes entrasen en conflicto con la primera ley. 3. Un robot debe proteger su propia existencia en la medida en que esta protección no entre en conflicto con la primera y segunda leyes. “¿Hasta qué punto Asimov enuncia las leyes para defender a la humanidad de las máquinas, y no al contrario? Después de todo, el mal no puede estar en la máquina, sino en el mal uso que hace el hombre de ella”2. A partir de estos tres “mandamientos robóticos”, Asimov fue construyendo tanto personajes como historias en donde el conflicto hombre – robot se fue expresando de diferentes maneras. Los libros en los que se enfatiza en la robótica y son aventuras fantásticas en la serie “Ciclo de la Tierra” o “la serie de los robots” (figura 2). Esta saga está compuesta por 5 libros los cuales son: 1) I robot (Yo, robot) en 1950. Colección de 9 relatos cortos sobre robots Figura 2. Primera novela Imagen obtenida de: http://www.google.com/ de robots humanoides, transcurre en la Tierra, en el siglo 47, cuando la colonización de la Galaxia estaba estancada en 50 planetas. Se plantea, por primera vez, una solución a este problema, en el sentido de su reanudación. 3) The Naked Sun (El sol desnudo), 1957. Segunda novela de robots. Con el mismo protagonista (Elijah Baley), es una continuación de la anterior. Aparece por primera vez el planeta Solaria y una amenaza a toda la Galaxia habitada. 2 Peirano, Martha, “Conozca más”, p. 54. 4 4) The Robots of Dawn (Los robots del amanecer), 1983. Tercera novela de robots. Baley deberá resolver un enigmático bloqueo mental de un robot humaniforme en Aurora, planeta líder de los Mundos Espaciales. 5) Robots and Empire (Robots e Imperio), 1985. Cuarta novela de robots. La Tierra ha comenzado una nueva ola de colonización y Baley ha muerto, pero los Espaciales no están dispuestos a renunciar sin más a la conquista de la Galaxia. 1.4. Primeros prototipos En 1946, el inventor estadounidense G. C desarrolló un dispositivo que podía registrar señales eléctricas por medios magnéticos y reproducirlas para accionar una máquina mecánica. Más tarde en 1952 una máquina prototipo de control numérico fue objetivo de una demostración en el Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts después de varios años de desarrollo. Un lenguaje de programación de piezas denominado Automatically Programmed Tooling (APT por sus siglas en inglés) se desarrolló posteriormente. En 1959, fue introducido el primer robot comercial por Planet Corporation, el cual estaba controlado mediante interruptores y en 1960 se introdujo el primer robot Unimate de transmisión hidráulica. Un año más tarde se instaló en la Ford Motors Company para atender una máquina de fundición de troquel. Para 1966, Trallfa, una firma noruega, construyó e instaló un robot de pintura por pulverización y dos años después un robot móvil llamado Shakey se desarrolló en SRI (Standford Research Institute). Estaba provisto de una diversidad de sensores así como una cámara de visión y táctiles, podía desplazarse por el suelo. Stanford University desarrolló un pequeño brazo de robot de accionamiento eléctrico llamado Standford Arm, en 1971 y 1973 surge SRI, el primer lenguaje de programación de robots del tipo de computadora para la investigación con Figura 3. Evolución de la Robótica La Robótica ha evolucionado hacia los sistemas móviles autónomos, que son aquellos que son capaces de desenvolverse por sí mismos en entornos 5 desconocidos y parcialmente cambiantes sin necesidad de supervisión.

I emphasise the field of robotic art, which, I argue, is in a fluid state of exchange with other areas of robotic research, equally benefiting from the larger context of the cultural imagination about robots. Furthermore, I discuss artworks that offer a valuable commentary on robots even though they are not defined as robotic art in a narrow sense (Penny 2013), given that they feature only the representation of robots or robot-like characters. As a museum of the future the devices that Miraikan houses are often framed in terms of their potential uses. This means that the display strategies employed depend on utilizing conceptions of the future. By critically engaging with the visions of the future that are presented in the museum this research elucidates some of these underlying influences traceable to social and environmental concerns, and considers which among these are particular to the Japanese context, drawing on participant observation with volunteers and staff as well as academic literature concerning museum curatorship in Japan and elsewhere. The primary concern of this resesarch is the shifting relationship between technology and human labour, in which there is growing tendency to anthropomorphize machines set against the increasing mechanization of human behavior various contexts. This research seeks to demonstrate how the visions of the future on display at Miraikan can be seen as attempts to replace missing kinship relationships, or to reclaim ‘lost bodies’ in various ways.

Chair Ewers welcomed and thanked everyone who dialed in this morning and noted as a matter of housekeeping, that the next Board meeting is an in person meeting scheduled in Ocala beginning with dinner on Sunday evening February 7 and the Board meeting in person at the Ocala office on Monday, February 8 from 8:30 to noon. He asked that everyone note this meeting date on your calendar and more information will be forthcoming on hotel accommodations and dinner arrangements. With those comments, Chair Ewers moved directly into the meeting asking for a discussion and approval of Action Item 1, the October 7, 2015 minutes. A motion was made by Director Reeves and seconded by Director Baker to approve the minutes and this passed unanimously.
