This morning we’re looking beyond the walls. What do you see next door to the church? Next door to the parsonage? Next door to all of you as members? Who are the people around us? Do they all look like us? Do they all live like us? With all the events going on around us, how are we seeing people? As Christians we need to ask, “How does Jesus see people in Matthew 9:35-10:8 and how can that inform our eyes and actions today?” So thanks for joining us and having our Lord open our eyes! SCRIPTURES & APOSTLES’ CREED First Reading: Psalm 116:1-2, 12-19 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Second Reading: Romans 5:1-8 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. GOSPEL READING Gospel Reading: Matthew 9:35-10:8 L: This is the Gospel of our Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. ORDER OF CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS P: Triune God, C: We praise You as the God of love and life. Though Jesus prayed that we would be one, we confess that we fail to live in unity with each other and with You. We break our communion through hostile words and unkind actions. We long for Your Spirit to heal us and to correct us. We long for You to help us experience communion with You and with each other. Please forgive us when our sin has caused disunity between us and You and disunity with others. Even now, dependent on Your grace, we commit ourselves to live more fully in the unity You desire that we may see all people as You do. (Silence for Confession and Self-Examination) P: The Good News this morning is that God still sees us as His beloved children. He sees our failure, but He has also heard our confession and chooses mercy. You are forgiven all your sins in the name of the Father, Son + and Holy Spirit! C: Amen. The service leader takes up the lit candle; a second person comes forward, takes another candle and lights it from the first; a third person takes up the third candle and lights it from the second. So, for now, we will all need to mask up for Sunday Services, and other group meetings at RLC. The double doors in the lower lot will be our only access point. There will be no sharing of the peace before service or receiving line after church to maximize social distancing. Please do not attend church or other church activities if you have a respiratory illness or feel like you are coming down with one for at least 14 days after your full recovery. Family members should not attend either. Offering collection: We will not be passing the collection plate during the offertory. Please either drop your offering in the collection plates by the door or give online. Alternatively, you may mail a check to the church office. Communion will be coming in prepackaged hosts and cups, of both wine and grape juice. We are planning on having communion only 2 times a month (1st and 3rd Sundays.) Pastor will consecrate the communion elements during the service and we will commune together in the service at the designated time for communion. There will be a receptacle at the door for disposing the supplies upon leaving the sanctuary. We will no longer be doing a temperature check at church, but do ask you to self monitor your temperature at home before coming to church.

    EARTH, WIND & FIRE - Bio During the 1970s, a new brand of pop music was born - one that was steeped in African and African- American styles - particularly jazz and R&B but appealed to a broader cross-section of the listening public. As founder and leader of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, Maurice White not only embraced but also helped bring about this evolution of pop, which bridged the gap that has often separated the musical tastes of black and white America. It certainly was successful, as EWF combined high-caliber musicianship, wide-ranging musical genre eclecticism, and '70s multicultural spiritualism. "I wanted to do something that hadn't been done before," Maurice explains. "Although we were basically jazz musicians, we played soul, funk, gospel, blues, jazz, rock and dance music...which somehow ended up becoming pop. We were coming out of a decade of experimentation, mind expansion and cosmic awareness. I wanted our music to convey messages of universal love and harmony without force- feeding listeners' spiritual content." Maurice was born December 19, 1941, in Memphis, TN. He was immersed in a rich musical culture that spanned the boundaries between jazz, gospel, R&B, blues and early rock. All of these styles played a role in the development of Maurice's musical identity. At age six, he began singing in his church's gospel choir but soon his interest turned to percussion. He began working gigs as a drummer while still in high school. His first professional performance was with Booker T. Jones, who eventually achieved stardom as Booker T and the MGs.

It's a statement that was true then and continues to be true today. Racism is evil. Racism still affects the lives of our brothers and sisters of color. Racism has an impact on all aspects of society. As we have recently seen, even our community is impacted by the evil of racism. WE MUST DO BETTER. We must make ourselves uncomfortable to be able to root out racism in our very selves. It is required of us to do this so that others can live lives of dignity. As we wrestle with the consequences of the sin of racism, let us come together as a community to support all who affected by this terrible evil. And, let us do everything in our power to become instruments of peace for o u r b r o t h e r s a n d s i s t e r s . I leave you with several sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. These sections expand on the Church's teaching that every form of discrimination must be eradicated from our society.
