Mid-Week Lenten Worship – March 3, 2021 Theme: You Shall Love the Lord Your God with All Your Heart

Overview You Shall Love the Lord Your God with All Your Heart True obedience and understanding come from the heart. How can we respond to God’s love from the depths of our hearts? Link to the text: In Genesis 17, God establishes a covenant with Abraham and Sarah. They place their faith, hope, and love in God, trusting with all their hearts.

Opening Dialogue Based on 1 Cor. 13:13; Heb. 11:1; Rom. 8:24; 1 John 4:16

L: Faith, hope and love, these three; C: and the greatest of these is love. L: Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, C: the conviction of things not seen. L: Hope that is seen is not hope. C: For who hopes for what is seen? L: God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, C: and God abides in them. L: Faith, hope and love, these three; C: and the greatest of these is love.

Gathering Song ELW # 561 "Joyous Light of Heavenly Glory"

Reading Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16 God blesses Abraham and Sarah 1When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless. 2And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will make you exceedingly numerous." 3Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him, 4"As for me, this is my covenant with you: You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations. 5No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations. 6I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. 7I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. 15God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. 16I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall give rise to nations; kings of peoples shall come from her."

Reflection The reflection may conclude: L: May we look and perceive, listen and understand, C: turn and be forgiven.

Hymn of the Day ELW #648 “Beloved, God’s Chosen”

2 Prayers Based, in part, on Deut. 4:39; Ps. 23:3; 2 Chron. 6:14

L: Let us pray to the Lord, the God in heaven above and on the earth beneath.

A brief silence.

L: O Lord our God, show us your everlasting love, C: that we may serve you from the obedience of our hearts. L: Lead us in the way of your peace, C: that our souls may be restored. L: Fill our imaginations with the wonders of your creation, C: that our minds may reflect your glory. L: Guide us in the way of the cross, C: that we might proclaim the strength of your love. L: O Lord, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant in steadfast love with your servants who walk before you with all their heart. Hear us, O God, as we join together and offer the prayer you taught us:

Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Amen

Malagasy - Rainay izay any an-danitra, Hohamasinina anie ny anaranao. Ho tonga anie ny fanjakanao. Hatao anie ny sitraponao. Ny ety an-tany tahaka ny any an-danitra. Omeo anay anio izay hanina sahaza ho anay. Ary mamelà ny helokay. Tahaka ny namelany izay meloka taminay. Ary aza mitondra anay ho amin’ny fakam-panahy, fa manafaha anay amin’ny ratsy. Fa Anao ny fanjakana sy ny hery ary ny voninahitra mandrakizay. Amena.

3 Blessing Based on Deut. 6:5-9; 1 Chron. 16:36; Phil. 4:7

L: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, with all your strength. Keep these words in your heart.

Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorpost of your house.

C: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.

L: The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. C: Amen.

Sending Song “, Lord” sing 2x

Open our eyes, Lord, — we want to see Jesus, To reach out and touch Him, and say that we love Him. Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen, Open our eyes, Lord, — we want to see Jesus.

Open our hearts, Lord, that we might receive You, Open our spirits, and teach us to worship. Open our lips, Lord, and teach us to praise You, Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.
