Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the differences between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas This document should be read in conjunction with the School Places Strategy 2017 – 2022 and provides an explanation of the differences between the Wiltshire Community Areas served by the Area Boards and the School Planning Areas. The Strategy is primarily a school place planning tool which, by necessity, is written from the perspective of the School Planning Areas. A School Planning Area (SPA) is defined as the area(s) served by a Secondary School and therefore includes all primary schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into that secondary school. As these areas can differ from the community areas, this addendum is a reference tool to aid interested parties from the Community Area/Area Board to define which SPA includes the schools covered by their Community Area. It is therefore written from the Community Area standpoint. Amesbury The Amesbury Community Area and Area Board covers Amesbury town and surrounding parishes of Tilshead, Orcheston, Shrewton, Figheldean, Netheravon, Enford, Durrington (including Larkhill), Milston, Bulford, Cholderton, Wilsford & Lake, The Woodfords and Great Durnford. It encompasses the secondary schools The Stonehenge School in Amesbury and Avon Valley College in Durrington and includes primary schools which feed into secondary provision in the Community Areas of Durrington, Lavington and Salisbury. However, the School Planning Area (SPA) is based on the area(s) served by the Secondary Schools and covers schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into either The Stonehenge School in Amesbury or Avon Valley College in Durrington. -

Geophysics in the Minster Environs, Warminster, Wiltshire, 2014. Mat Charlton and John Oswin with contributions from Mark Corney Bath and Camerton Archaeological Society & Artefact it Ltd i Abstract As part of the Warminster Heritage Lottery project, a number of geophysical surveys using resistance and magnetometry techniques were conducted on various sites in the northern portion of Warminster town in Wiltshire, the research aim being to search for signs of occupation pre-dating the development of the mediaeval market town. The survey would also look for any possible church buildings away from the present minster church, which is predominantly a Victorian rebuild? The sites were the only open spaces available, but those of any size were in use as school playing fields, which had undergone grading and so rearranged the topsoil. Nonetheless, there were a number of indications of possible earlier settlement, although these appeared to be prehistoric rather than pre-Norman. These could be on dry terrace or right down on the flood plain of the Were Stream. Limited surveying close to the church and observation of architectural features, suggested that any previous Minster church was most likely to be under or very close to the present church. Thank you for the help you gave during the inspection and for the time you made available to discuss the actions which have been taken since the academy’s previous monitoring inspection. The inspection was the fifth monitoring inspection since the academy became subject to special measures following the inspection which took place in December 2013. The full list of the areas for improvement which were identified during that inspection is set out in the annex to this letter. The monitoring inspection report is attached. Having considered all the evidence I am of the opinion that at this time: The academy is not taking effective action towards the removal of special measures. The academy may appoint newly qualified teachers in subjects other than science. This letter and monitoring inspection report will be published on the Ofsted website. I am copying this letter and the monitoring inspection report to the Secretary of State for Education, the Chair of the Governing Body and the Director of Children’s Services for West Sussex. -

Now that their exams are behind them, the children in Years 6 and 7 can focus on their Pirates take over Nursery residential trips. The Year 6s will make their inaugural visit to PGL Liddington and the Year 7s will head to Dorset for their Geography fieldwork trip. With the Year 5s not long returned from their stay in the New Forest, there is every cause to reflect on how lucky the children are – and how lucky we are that they grasp every opportunity with both hands. In assembly this week, we looked at an average life counted out in jelly beans; we then looked at just one jelly bean and contemplated what we would do with it. The answers were varied; most said they Read and see more on page 2. would spend time with their friends and family, some wanted to read a favourite book, one boy even had dastardly plans to be rebellious. Congratulations The point of the assembly was, whether what looms is bad or good, embrace it, because when the day is done, you can’t get it back. However, while we need to live each day to its fullest in the here and now, we can plan for the future. Critical Thinking and PSHE were introduced into our school timetable this year and both subjects have had a huge impact on the way our children think and learn. -
