IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF BERYL MARKHAM KENYAN AVIATRIX AND HORSEWOMAN EXTRAORDINAIRE from $ 9 NIGHT/10 DAY DOMESTIC AIR & LAND ONLY 8959* Beryl Markham’s memoir West with the Night reads like fiction, so fantastic are her exploits. The first person to fly solo, per person based on non-stop across the Atlantic from east to west, Beryl was also a highly successful race horse breeder and trainer. Ernest Hemingway marveled that Beryl ‘writes rings around all who consider ourselves writers’. As well as being a bush pilot, double occupancy friend of Karen Blixen, and Denys Finch-Hutton’s lover, Beryl was at one time the most successful horse trainer in Kenya, a feat never before accomplished by a young woman.
