Welcome to Chandler Public Library and NoveList. NoveList lets you search for books by a favorite author, discover new authors, find readalikes, and more. This tutorial will show you how.

Page down to move forward. Start at chandlerlibrary.org hover your mouse over READ, and choose Novelist.

You can also get to NoveList, and all our databases, by choosing Databases A-Z from the RESEARCH tab. There are several ways to search NoveList. The home page allows you to browse for recommended reading lists or featured . You can also search by author, , or book description.

Click this NoveList icon to get back to this page and start over at any time. Author searches can be the most useful. We’ll start with an author . The first thing you’ll see is a summary of the author and some characteristics of their books. Scroll down… …and you’ll get a list of titles, arranged in tabs. The Books tab shows titles by of publication (newest first). The Series tab arranges titles by series, which is useful if your author writes several different series. Click the name of the series for a list of titles in that series. Titles in the series are listed in order, although if there are related books (like these short story collections that feature Sookie Stackhouse) they may be at the top of the list. To the right you’ll see ways to find similar authors and books. Recommended authors are listed, and you can click a name for more information and a list of their books. You can also choose characteristics you like about your author’s books, to see if there are other books with those characteristics. Use the checkboxes, then click the Search button. (Hint: ’t choose too many, about 2-3.) Click an author’s name for more information and a list of titles. (Your author will be on this list, too.) Here is a new author with a new set of titles. We’ll click on a title to get more information and see what other options are available. This time you’ll see a summary of the book, along with other information about the book (as you scroll down). Some books have a First Chapter link and a Reviews tab. The First Chapter link lets you read a preview of the book. The Reviews tab contains reviews published in professional sources. To the right, again, you’ll see a way to search for books with similar features that you choose. Recommended similar books may also be available for some titles. NoveList offers even more resources for readers. To the right on the home page you’ll see links to read-alikes, book discussion guides, winners, and more. Browse the Author Read-alikes page to find popular authors and books that are similar. Each read-alike listing includes an article written by librarians, which discusses what readers like in the author’s books… …then lists similar authors with a discussion about what makes them similar. Click on the authors and titles to see their full information. Book discussion guides are also available for popular titles. Type in a title or browse alphabetically. Each guide features a summary of the book and discussion questions. You can also find and a list of books that have won them (kids and teens, too). You can access NoveList from home at any time, even when the library is closed.

Start at chandlerlibrary.org hover your mouse over READ, and choose Novelist. If you’re accessing from home, you’ll need to type in your library card and PIN numbers. (NoveList is a database that the Library subscribes to, not free information on the internet, and entering your numbers proves that we’ve paid for you.) Then you’ll come to the NoveList home page, where you can start exploring new books and authors. Enjoy your search!
