For the 2017/18 season, from Killington and Pico Mountain in Vermont to Boreal and Soda Springs in California, guests at POWDR’s properties will delight in enhanced local flavors, home-grown vibe, and unique mountain culture. Notable enhancements include new restaurants and retail at Copper Mountain, a new high-speed six-person chairlift at Eldora, a new solar rooftop system at Boreal Mountain Resort, and improved state-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming equipment at Killington, which is also the host site for 2017 Audi FIS Ski World Cup. The capital spending plan demonstrates POWDR’s commitment to cultivating the best possible local experiences at every resort by investing wisely to create sustainable communities while engaging the next generation of mountain and action sports enthusiasts. Below is a roundup of projects that guests can look forward to for the 2017/18 season. Toast & Co., Downhill Duke’s, and Ten Mile Tavern Expand Copper’s Dining Options Toast & Co. is Copper’s newest modern transitional dining concept offering guests a spot for premium breakfast, brunch or evening libation. Guests are invited to wander into the authentic Colorado experience, whether drawn in by the aromas of local fare, or mellow sounds of bluegrass. At Toast & Co., skiers and riders start the day with a coffee drink, morning cocktail, and a savory breakfast curated with Colorado Proud products before hitting the slopes. Visitors are encouraged to return for après ski to sit back and enjoy the restaurant’s transformation into an evening lounge complete with hand-crafted libations and small plates featuring local purveyors. At Downhill Duke’s, guests will think that Duke had a lot of friends in Copper’s avalanche dog rescue program – one of the first in the state of Colorado. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut as an avalanche rescue dog himself, he just knew how to throw a really good party. With a south-facing patio, visitors can enjoy lunch in the afternoon sunshine over shared plates and live music. The après scene shifts into high gear as guests unbuckle their boots and kick back with a lively libation, or two, and are bound to get on their feet or perhaps the tables as they enjoy a locally-sourced menu around outdoor heaters and fire pits. Downhill Duke’s also invites guests to bring Fido along. The menu features dog-friendly items and a special patio area where furry friends can put up their paws after a hard day of romping in the snow. New to Copper’s Center Village this season is Ten Mile Tavern, an inviting restaurant and taproom featuring rustic modern interior décor, indoor/outdoor fireplace, walk-up bar, and elevated patio space. Ten Mile Tavern’s slopeside location welcomes skiers and snowboarders to hang their jackets on a heated coat rack and enjoy a selection from the elevated pub menu paired with a signature 10 Barrel craft beer. With 20 beers on tap, guests can sample a flight or enjoy a personal favorite while socializing with friends, family and locals. Kokomo Express Lift and Koko’s Hut Debut in Copper Mountain’s West Village In an effort to empower beginners to explore Copper Mountain’s naturally-divided terrain offerings, a new chairlift will debut in Copper Mountain’s West Village on Dec. 15. The Kokomo Express lift, a Doppelmayr high speed detachable quad, has replaced Kokomo lift, and will provide ease of access to an abundance of beginner trails on the side of the mountain with the easiest terrain. Unlike the old lift, skiers and riders will board Kokomo Express from within the base area of West Village, providing convenient access right out of the West Village Day Lodge. At the top of the new Kokomo Express, guests will be greeted with a brand new lodge hut, Koko’s. The 2,500 square foot building provides seating for 200, restroom facilities, and grab-and-go comfort food, all complemented with a large outdoor deck and sweeping panoramas of Copper Mountain and Tenmile Range. Accompanying the new beginner experience is the addition of three consecutive magic carpet surface lifts at the base of the new Kokomo Express and one magic carpet at the top. The new lift and lodge set the bar for an exceptional beginner ski and ride experience. Camp Hale Outfitters Becomes Copper’s Centrally-located Basecamp Copper Mountain integrates the rich history of the 10th Mountain Division and nearby Camp Hale with the introduction of Camp Hale Outfitters, a basecamp featuring an expanded coffee shop, new wine bar, shopping and high performance rentals from Rossignol and Colorado-made ski and snowboard brands. Guests can stop in to Camp Hale Outfitters in Center Village to pick up extra layers and a coffee on their way to the lifts, or return in the afternoon to switch out equipment or stop in for an après drink at the new wine bar. In addition, Camp Hale Outfitters offers a new concierge-style demo experience complete with tailored tech service and overnight ski storage at the base of the mountain. All New Copper Sports Rethinks Rentals Those looking to rent ski and snowboard equipment this season can step into Copper Sports for simplified slopeside rentals. With its new location, Copper Sports has transitioned to become a streamlined rental shop right at the base of the American Eagle lift in Center Village. Guests renting from Copper Sports are able to utilize check-in terminals before heading over to the dedicated boot-fitting zone and equipment pickup area before they’re out the door and onto the slopes. Copper Installs Radio-Frequency Gates at 8 Mountain Access Lifts, Adds Three New Snowcats Skiers and riders can now leave passes in their jackets as they load mountain access lifts with new RFID technology. Gated access lift pass technology is not a new concept, but it’s new to Copper this year and will be installed at all mountain access lifts including Alpine, Super Bee, Pitchfork, Union Creek, American Flyer, American Eagle, Lumberjack and Kokomo. Designed to maximize lift loads and simplify the lift entry experience, the upgrade will improve operations and provide greater guest convenience with the use of one pass. Additionally, Copper’s Secret! Season Pass Program will have dedicated gates to get pass holders up mountain quicker than ever. Additionally, to maintain the high quality snow surface and terrain parks Copper guests have come to expect, POWDR is adding four new state-of-the-art energy efficient snowcats to the existing fleet. New Alpenglow high speed six-person chairlift opens at Eldora Mountain Resort Eldora Mountain Resort will install a new high-speed detachable six-passenger chairlift in time for the 2017-18 ski season. The new Alpenglow lift, named after Eldora’s morning and afternoon natural-light spectacle, will replace the Cannonball and Challenge fixed-grip double and triple chairlifts at the base of the mountain. The Doppelmayr USA lift will have a ride time of approximately four and a half minutes with more than 1,000 feet of vertical rise over a distance of 3,829 feet and a capacity of 3,600 people per hour. The Alpenglow lift reflects an ongoing commitment by POWDR to empower Eldora to be the best resort it can be, while continuing to provide amazing family experiences. Executing the project in a sustainable manner and with minimal impact to the land is a top priority. Materials from the old lifts, such as motor parts, terminals, lift towers, cables, and miscellaneous metals will be recycled. Reusable components, such as generators, will be repurposed elsewhere at the resort. Transitioning from two older generation lifts to one modern lift will reduce the resort’s carbon footprint. Updated Conveniences Elevate the Eldora Experience Eldora is set to unveil a number of guest amenity improvements for the 2017/18 season that enhance the mountain experience including free Wi-Fi throughout the Indian Peaks Lodge and Timbers Lodge, refurbished lodge areas, updated restrooms in Timbers and Lookout Lodges, healthier, locally sourced, and more diverse menu options, expanded Ski Beach area outside of Timbers Lodge, an electrical upgrade which will provide cleaner and more reliable power resort-wide, and new children’s rental equipment fleet. Further, the addition of a new snowcat will mean better snow management and a higher quality grooming experience for skiers and riders. Boreal Mountain Resort Expands Sustainable Operations with Solar Installment, Expands Snowcat Fleet Boreal Mountain Resort and Opterra Energy Services will unveil the biggest on-site solar installment in California ski industry this fall. Demonstrating POWDR’s intention to Play Forever, the 235-kW system will be mounted on the Woodward Bunker roof and is projected to generate more than 325,000 kWh of clean electricity annually. Each year, Boreal’s solar will offset the equivalent of nearly 550,000 passenger vehicle miles driven, avoiding more than 250 tons of CO2.
