Matchday 18 Serie A TIM 2020-21 15 - 18 January 2021 15/01/2021 20:45 - OLIMPICO LAZIO Vs ROMA This will be the 153rd Rome derby in Serie A TIM: the Giallorossi have won 54 of these matches (L38) - 60 draws, including both meetings last season. This will be the first Rome derby to be played on Friday in all competitions: this is the only day of the week in which this fixture has never been played in it’s history. The last time AS Roma won an away league derby against Lazio was back in December 2016: two draws and one Biancoceleste victory since then. AS Roma are unbeaten in their last seven Serie A TIM derbies against Lazio in the first half of the season (W5 D2): their last defeat came back in November 2012, when Vladimir Petkovic was the Biancocelesti manager. Lazio have won their last two league games, whilst they are yet to win three on the bounce this season: the Biancocelesti have also won their last two home league games last winning three on the bounce at the Olimpico in Serie A TIM in June 2020. AS Roma have one point less (34 vs 35) than they did at this stage last season, but have scored four more goals: only in 1960/61, 2006/07 and 2012/13 have the Giallorossi netted more than 37 goals at this point of the season. AS Roma (eight) and Lazio (six) have scored the most goals in the first 15 minutes of Serie A TIM games this season. Felipe Caicedo has netted in both of his last two league matches; he could score in three Serie A TIM matches in a row for the first time since December 2019. Lazio’s striker scored in the only previous league derby in which he started (March 2019). This fixture will see two of the four midfielders with the most assists in Serie A TIM this season go head to head: AS Roma’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan (eight) and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (five), between them Brozovic and Calhanoglu (both six). Roma’s Edin Dzeko, scored in the last derby (January 2020) and could net in back-to-back Serie A TIM matches against Lazio for the first time since April 2016; the Bosnian could become the 6th Roma player to score in at least four different Serie A TIM derbies after Totti, Delvecchio, Volk, Da Costa and Amadei. 16/01/2021 15:00 - RENATO DALL'ARA BOLOGNA Vs HELLAS VERONA Bologna are unbeaten in their last four Serie A TIM matches against Verona (W2 D2) - their last league defeat against the Gialloblu was back in April 2016 (0-1 at DallAra). Verona have won two of their last four away Serie A TIM matches against Bologna (D1 L1), as many successes as in their previous 17 games on the road against the Rossoblu in the top-flight (D7 L8). Verona have registered seven Serie A TIM wins: only in three campaigns (eight in 1982/83, nine in 1984/85, nine in 2013/14) have they had more wins after 17 games in a Serie A TIM season. Verona have conceded 16 goals in their first 17 matches in a single Serie A TIM campaign for the first time since 1988/89. No other team have conceded fewer goals in the current league campaign (level with Napoli and Juventus). Bologna are one of the three teams, with Parma and Cagliari, that haven’t won a single Serie A TIM match since December 2020: three defeats and five draws for the Rossoblu in their last eight matches. No Serie A TIM side has conceded fewer goals in the last 15 minutes of play than Bologna and Verona this season (both three, alongisde Atalanta and Napoli). This fixture will see the team that have attempted the most shots on target from outside the box in Serie A TIM this season (Bologna 33, level with Napoli) face the side that have attempted the fewest (Verona 11). Bologna’s Rodrigo Palacio has scored only one goal in Serie A TIM this season (on MD2 against Parma): among players that have scored, he has the worst Mins/Goal (one goal in 1434 minutes played). Among sides he has faced at least three times in Serie A TIM, Verona are the opponent against which Bologna’s Roberto Soriano has the best Mins/Goal ratio: four goals in six matches against them, one every 113 minutes. Verona’s Antonin Barak has been involved in more goals in the current league season (four: three goals and an assist in 14 appearances) than in the entirety of the last campaign for both Udinese and Lecce (three in 24 matches). 16/01/2021 18:00 - OLIMPICO GRANDE TORINO TORINO Vs SPEZIA Torino and Spezia have never met in Serie A TIM or Serie B: their only previous fixture in a top-tier competition came back in the 1937/38 Coppa Italia, when the Granata won 4-2 in the last 32 round. Torino have lost only two of their last 14 Serie A TIM matches against Ligurian sides: eight wins and four draws. Spezia have lost only one of their last five away Serie B games against sides from Piemonte (W3 D1): defeat in Novara in February 2017. Spezia could win three league matches in a row for the first time since February 2020 (five in that case in Serie B). Torino have picked up 12 points so far: in the three points for a win era, only in 2002/03 have they collected fewer points at this stage (10) – they were relegated at the end of that season. Torino have conceded 35 goals in the current league season: in the first 17 Serie A TIM seasonal matches, only in 1958/59 have they conceded more (44) - they were relegated at the end of that season. Torino (24) and Spezia (22) have conceded the most goals in the second half of Serie A TIM games this season. Among the players that have scored 9+ goals in the top-5 European Leagues in 2020/21, M'Bala Nzola has attempted the fewest shots on target (12). Since October 2020, only Ronaldo (12), Immobile and Joao Pedro (both 10) have netted more than the Spezia’s striker in Serie A TIM (nine goals). The only side against which Torino’s Jacopo Segre scored more than one goal between Serie A TIM and Serie B is Spezia. The last time Torino’s Federico Bonazzoli faced Spezia in Serie B (March 2019) the forward scored a brace (for Padova); that remains his only brace in Serie B. 16/01/2021 20:45 - LUIGI FERRARIS SAMPDORIA Vs UDINESE Sampdoria have won each of their last three Serie A TIM games against Udinese, scoring at least two goals in each of those. The last time The Blucerchiati collected four consecutive wins in the top-flight against The Friulani was in 1997. The last time Udinese won a Serie A TIM away match against Sampdoria was in December 2012 (2-0 thanks to Danilo’s and Di Natale’s goals) - the only Friulian victory at Ferraris against in their last 15 league matches (D6 L8). In the era of three points per win, Sampdoria and Udinese have met three times on Matchday 18 and each have ended level (1-1 in 1999, 1-1 in 2009, 0-0 in 2016). Sampdoria are the only side to have not drawn any game since the start of December in the current top-flight. in the eight games since then, the Blucerchiati have picked up three wins and five losses – three of which have come in their last four matches. Udinese have picked up three points in their last six league matches (D3 L3), more than only Cagliari (2) and Parma (1). Indeed, the Friuliani have only scored five goals during this run, with only Parma (1), netting less often over this period than Udinese. Since 2010/11, only Francesco Guidolin (1.58) and Igor Tudor (1.40) can boast a higher points per game average in charge of Udinese in Serie A TIM than Luca Gotti (1.16). Sampdoria have conceded the most penalties in the league this season (7), whilst no side have taken fewer penalties than Udinese (1, alongside Bologna, Parma and Genoa). Udinese are one of the two teams, (level with Cagliari), in which Sampdoria midfielder Antonio Candreva has scored the most goals from the penalty spot in Serie A TIM (3). The last time Antonio Candreva scored in three league matches in a row was in February 2014 with Lazio. Indeed, in his career, the Sampdoria midfielder has found the net three times against Udinese in the top-flight, last doing so in February 2015. Udinese’s Ilja Nestorovski has scored more Serie A TIM goals versus Sampdoria than any other side. Indeed, he has netted three goals in four appearances against The Liguri, including two in his two games at Ferraris (October 2016 and November 2019). 17/01/2021 12:30 - DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA NAPOLI Vs FIORENTINA Fiorentina won their last Serie A TIM match against Napoli in January 2020, they have not won two consecutive games against The Azzurri since 1997 (five). Fiorentina won their last Serie A TIM away game against Napoli, indeed, the Viola have won three times since 2009/10 in Campania against the Azzurri, with only Parma (4) collecting more wins on the road over this period at Napoli). Napoli are averaging 1.63 points per game at home and 2.25 away, one of only four sides (Benevento, Milan and Spezia) to be currently earning more points on the road than at home in Serie A TIM this season.
