    Two teachers surprised with new car from Planet Ford, trip to Hawaii from Thomas Markle Jewelers and United Airlines Randall and Sherry Reed of Planet Ford presented Joanna Randall Reed congratulated Secondary Teacher of the Year Grigsby with the District Teacher of the Year Award. Grigsby Samuel Pollard, who was surprised with a trip to Hawaii will have the choice between a new Ford Fusion or Escape. sponsored by Thomas Markle Jewelers and United Airlines. It was an evening to remember for Joanna Grigsby, who was handed the keys to a new Ford car after being named both District and Elementary Teacher of the Year. The announcement took place on Friday, April 5, during the Humble ISD Education Foundation Gala, with Randall Reed of Planet Ford presenting the award. Samuel Pollard, Humble ISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year, was also surprised with a trip to Hawaii, sponsored by Thomas Markle Jewelers and United Airlines. Both teachers are part of an inspirational group of ten educators who were chosen as Finalists after being named Campus Teacher of the Year. Humble ISD has 43 Campus Teachers of the Year who will be honored throughout the 2013-14 school year for their tremendous contribution to student achievement, their schools, and the future of education. Joanna Grigsby currently teaches 5th grade at Elm Grove Elementary, and Samuel Pollard teaches history at Summer Creek High School. Humble ISD participates in the Teacher of the Year program annually. Each school in the District selects a Campus Teacher of the Year, and a committee comprised of mainly TOY honorees from previous years reviews written materials and selects ten finalists to interview.

Turner Stadium is close to home. Parking is free. Students have high school memories associated with Turner Stadium. The main advantage of NRG -- an unlimited number of guests per graduate -- was not applicable this school year.

The Scholastic Awards are the largest, most prestigious awards program in the country for creative teens in grades 7-12. Including in the recognitions are students from Klein, Deer Park, Cy-Fair, Pasadena, Clear Creek, Galena Park, Spring, Aldine, Houston, Humble, Crosby, Spring Branch, Katy and Crosby independent school districts. Private school awardees are from St. John’s School and the Village School. A meritorious teacher award is delivered to Pearland Independent School District.
