CREATIVE TEAM Bob Martin (Book) has been working as an actor and writer for over three decades. He has received many awards in both Canada and the US, including a Tony for The Drowsy Chaperone. Recent TV projects include “Slings & Arrows,” seasons 1, 2, and 3 (TMN, Sundance); “Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays” (CBC); “Michael: Every Day” (CBC); “Sensitive Skin, seasons 1 and 2” (HBO); and “Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas” (NBC). Recent theater projects include Encores! (NYC), The Prom (Atlanta), Gotta Dance (Chicago), Elf (Broadway, Dublin, London), The Drowsy Chaperone (Toronto, Broadway, London), Second City Toronto (performer, director, artistic director). In development: Millions, Half Time, The Princess Bride. Mark Hollmann (Music & Lyrics) won the Tony Award, the National Broadway Theatre Award, and the Obie Award for his music and lyrics to Urinetown: The Musical. As previously announced, Carousel will star Kelli O’Hara as Julie Jordan, Nathan Gunn as Billy Bigelow, and Stephanie Blythe as Nettie Fowler. The production will be directed by John Rando, conducted by Rob Fisher, and choreographed by Warren Carlyle. The production’s cast and creative team have earned a combined total of 16 Tony Awards and 32 Tony nominations. The New York Philharmonic’s production of Carousel will be telecast nationally on Live From Lincoln Center, hosted by Audra McDonald, on PBS stations Friday, April 26, 2013, at 9:00 p.m. (check local listings). Carousel is based on Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnár’s 1909 play, Liliom, but transfers the story from Europe to the Maine coastline.

Following a sold-out, critically acclaimed run at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in the Fall of 2013, Larry Kaye and HOP Theatricals and Van Dean and The Broadway Consortium announce that the new American play The Velocity of Autumn will begin previews Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Broadway’s Booth Theatre (222 West 45 Street) for a limited engagement. The Velocity of Autumn is a 90-minute powder keg dark comedy by Eric Coble that stars Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons (Bonnie and Clyde, “Roseanne”) and two-time Tony Award winner Stephen Spinella (Angels In America, Spring Awakening), is directed by Molly Smith and will open Monday, April 21, 2014. The Velocity of Autumn will mark the Broadway debuts of Playwright Eric Coble and Arena Stage Artistic Director Molly Smith. “Without a doubt, this is a big moment,” comments Smith. “I could not be more excited to be at the helm of the 20th production from Arena Stage to move to Broadway in the company’s 63-year history as a pioneering not-for-profit resident theater.
