A Most Memorable Tour By Stephen D. Chanko, WED NESDAY , JUNE 7TH WFS Vice-President and Tour Host he 2017 Wingfield Family Society (WFS) tour of England & Ireland, 5th June through 15th June, by all T accounts was a most memorable tour, one that will be remembered for many years. Our last tour of England was in 1999 and this year’s tour was only our second visit to Ireland since 1991. Each member will likely have different, favorite memories of this year’s tour, but I will do my best to summarize our visit and the people we had the honor and pleasure to meet. TUESDAY, JUNE 6TH Our 1st tour day in London, England, began with a charter coach tour by many of the historic sites of London, while being entertained by our tour guide Vivien Stokes. Afterwards, we made a stop at St. Benet Paul's Wharf, the official church of the College of Arms. Here on 29 March 1664, the infant Thomas Wingfield (of York River) was christened. We were greeted by the Rev. Aneirin Glyn, who gave us a brief overview of the Welsh Anglican church and allowed time for photos and viewing of the church. To our delight, proudly hanging above the church pews was the John Wingfield York Herald Banner. The WFS previously St Benet Paul’s Wharf Church, presented the banner to St Benet Paul’s Wharf in 1988. Before London, England. leaving St. Benet Paul’s Wharf, the Rev. Glyn said a prayer in The Banner of John Wingfield, York Herald Welsh for our safe onward travels while in England. displayed behind Stephen D.
