Telegraph to Centre: Send NHRC to Tripura

Her reaction came on a day a Trinamul joining event in Badharghat was attacked by suspected ruling BJP members, leaving three TMC workers injured

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday dared the BJP-led Centre to send the National Human Rights Commission to Tripura over attacks on her party supporters “every day”.

Her reaction came on a day a Trinamul joining event in Badharghat, 6km from Agartala, was attacked by suspected ruling BJP members, leaving three Trinamul workers injured. Three Trinamul student activists also received minor injuries at a college in Unakoti, some 150km from Agartala, when they were celebrating the foundation day of the Trinamul Chhatra Parishad.

Will you send teams of National Human Rights Commission only to Bengal? Why were such teams not sent to Tripura...? Our people are attacked by goons there every day,” she said.

Tripura BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharyya dismissed the allegations.

Mamata alleged in her virtual address from Calcutta that even cops posted for the security of Trinamul leaders had not been spared. “They received injuries and were not allowed medicines or injection,” she said.

She also predicted “khela hobe (her successful Bengal poll cry) in Tripura.

She reminded BJP leaders that they did not allow her MPs to visit Assam during the NRC protest there.

Her nephew and Trinamul all- general secretary Abhishek Banerjee warned the BJP that Trinamul would come to power in Tripura in 2023.

“Trinamul will form the government in Tripura under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. We will gie development to the people of Tripura. There will be no goons... but a government on the doorsteps of people of Tripura,” said Abhishek.

“The allegations are baseless and have been made only to remain in the news,” Tripura BJP spokesperson Bhattacharyya said. “It has been over a month but Trinamul has not been able to form the state committee. Nobody knows who is in charge. This reflects the actual strength of the party (in Tripura),”he added.

At Badharghat, the attack “by 15-20 armed BJP goons” was carried out at the house of Trinamul member Mujibur Islam Mazumdar 20 minutes before the joining event, senior party leader Subal Bhowmik in Tripura said. The injured were identified as TELEGRAPH, Online, 29.8.2021 Page No. 0, Size:(0)cms X (0)cms.

Mujibur, Rony Mia and Subhankar Debnath. Subhankar was flown to Calcutta in the evening for treatment.

Trinamul student activists were injured at Kailashahar College in Unakoti district. All eight districts of Tripura celebrated Trinamul Chhatra Parishad foundation day.

Earlier in the day, Trinamul in Agartala also took out a 6km rally attended by Trinamul MP Santanu Sen, which flagged spiralling prices, unemployment and worsening law and order.

The BJP came to power in Tripura in 2018 defeating the Left Front. Trinamul has intensified its activities in Tripura with an eye on the 2023 Assembly polls. https://www.telegraphindia.com/west-bengal/bengal-cm-to-centre-send-nhrc-to- tripura/cid/1828399

Pioneer CBI files 10 more FIRs in Bengal post-poll violence case, arrests 2

The CBI on Saturday said it had registered another 10 cases in connection with the post-poll violence in West Bengal, a day after officially confirming that 11 separate cases were registered in the matter. This has taken the tally of total FIRs to 21.

In probing one of the cases, registered on August 25, the agency conducted searches on Saturday at 15 different locations and arrested the two accused. This case relates to an incident at Chapra, under Nadia district of West Bengal, the agency said in a statement.

Both arrested accused will be produced before the competent court, the agency said. The CBI teams probing these cases have been provided CRPF security cover. These cases were registered by the CBI following orders of the Calcutta High Court.

The high court had recently handed over the investigation of serious crimes such as rape and murder during the post-poll violence in West Bengal to the Central agency after a report of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that flagged serious concerns over the serious crimes after the poll’s results were out on May 2.

The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress was re-elected in bitterly contested eight-phased polls.

In a unanimous judgment on a batch of PILs seeking an independent probe, the five- judge Bench also ordered the constitution of an SIT of State police officers to probe all other cases.

The SIT will include Suman Bala Sahoo, Soumen Mitra and Ranveer Kumar, all IPS officers of the West Bengal cadre. The Bench will monitor the investigations by both the CBI and the SIT and asked the two agencies to submit status reports to the court within six weeks. https://www.dailypioneer.com/2021/pioneer-exclusive/cbi-files-10-more-firs-in- bengal-post-poll-violence-case--arrests-2.html

Times of India West Bengal post-poll violence: CBI detains 2, registers 21 FIRs so far

NEW :

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday detained two people from Nadia district in West Bengal and registered more FIRs over post-poll violence incidents in the state.

The central investigating agency has also registered a total of 21 FIRs in connection with the case.

The TMC chief Mamata Banerjee alleged that in the ongoing CBI probe into post-poll violence, BJP workers are accompanying CBI officials to villages.

"In post-poll violence, five BJP workers and 16 TMC workers had died. We have no problem with CBI, but why are they taking BJP leaders with them to villages? National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and all other commissions have become political, all their members are from BJP," she said.

Earlier this month, Calcutta high court ordered a court-monitored CBI probe into the incidents of post-poll violence in the state.

The HC also ordered to set up Special Investigation Teams (SIT) for investigation and senior officers from West Bengal cadre will be a part of the team.

The court also directed the to take immediate steps for compensation for the victims of post-poll violence.

Several incidents of violence have been reported at various places after the announcement of the Assembly poll results on May 2, after which a four-member team deputed by the Ministry of Home Affairs also visited the post-poll violence-affected areas. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/west-bengal-post-poll-violence-cbi- detains-2-registers-21-firs-so-far/articleshow/85715606.cms

Devdiscourse TMC leaders have 'Talibani mindset', always talk of 'dying, killing', says BJP MP Raju Bista

BJP's MP from Darjeeling Raju Bista on Saturday alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee among other party leaders of having a "Talibani mindset" as they always talk of "dying and killing".

JP's Lok Sabha MP from Darjeeling Raju Bista on Saturday alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee among other party leaders of having a "Talibani mindset" as they always talk of "dying and killing". Speaking to ANI, Bista said, "Within a democracy, all political parties have the right to go anywhere in the country and contest elections. But if one listens to the statements of TMC leaders and Mamata didi, then they always talk of dying and killing, this is Talibani mindset."

Recalling various instances of violence in West Bengal in the tenure of Mamata Banerjee's Chief Ministership, Bista said that the TMC supremo "needs to introspect her conscience". Bista said, "Today more than 190 BJP activists have been killed in West Bengal, was it humanity? Not only this, 111 Gorkhas were killed in the middle of the road in Darjeeling in 2017, was it humanity? A 62-year-old grandmother was raped in front of her grandson, Is this humanity? I think Mamata didi needs to introspect her conscience."

Accusing the TMC of "working towards dividing the country", Bista while taking a jibe at the West Bengal Chief Minister said that she might be thinking of going to Afghanistan where democracy is in the utmost danger. "I also feel that maybe Mamata didi must be thinking of going to Afghanistan at this time because if democracy is in danger anywhere in the world right now, it is in Afghanistan. We should rise above such poor mentality and thinking. The land of Bengal is the land where people like Subhash Chandra Bose, Vivekananda ji who are the pride of the country, were born. And TMC is working towards dividing the country. I think this kind of petty politics should be avoided," said the BJP leader.

"West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee have levelled many allegations against the BJP. Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP government is an inhuman government. She also said that TMC will go to all those states where BJP has killed democracy and snatched away the rights of the people," said the BJP MP. The BJP MP alleged that since Mamata is afraid of the CBI, she keeps on giving accusatory statements against the national investigating agency.

"CBI is not the police of West Bengal. It is an independent body and it is working as per the directions of the Calcutta High Court and it is Mamata didi who during the tenure of the CPI-M government in West Bengal used to plead to CBI for every incident. So, I think, Mamata didi is scared of the CBI. Because of that fear, she keeps giving such statements on the CBI and the National Human Rights Commission DEVDISCOURSE, Online, 29.8.2021 Page No. 0, Size:(0)cms X (0)cms.

(NHRC)," said Bista. Responding to a question on TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's statement that no matter how much pressure the BJP creates on the TMC through ED, it will remain strong, Bista added, "He (Abhishek Banerjee) went to Tripura to stitch alliances for the 2023 assembly polls, but the scope for their alliance seems dim as there are fewer independent cadres than the number of votes their party is eyeing. Their candidates are accused of stealing coal, smuggling cows and rigging. I think everyone should be allowed to investigate this independently. They should not be afraid of getting this investigated if they are truthful." https://www.devdiscourse.com/article/politics/1709969-tmc-leaders-have-talibani- mindset-always-talk-of-dying-killing-says-bjp-mp-raju-bista
