Ya. Ustjuzhanin, V. N. Kovtunovich & R. V. Yakovlev Abstract As a result of new material collected, three new species for the Mongolian fauna of Pterophoridae have been found: Marasmarcha rhypodactyla (Staudinger, 1870), Marasmarcha cinnamomea (Staudinger, 1870), Septuaginta zagulajevi Ustjuzhanin, 1996. New localities are reported for other species. The female genitalia of Septuaginta zagulajevi Ustjuzhanin, 1996 is pictured for the first time. KEY WORDS: Lepidoptera, Pterophoridae, new records, Mongolia. Introduction Five years have passed since the review of Mongolian plume moths (USTJUZHANIN & KOVTUNOVICH, 2008) was published. During this time additional material has been obtained, which includes mostly specimens collected by R. Yakovlev and E. Guskova. As a result three new species for the Mongolian fauna of Pterophoridae have been found - Marasmarcha rhypodactyla (Staudinger, 1870), Marasmarcha cinnamomea (Staudinger, 1870), Septuaginta zagulajevi Ustjuzhanin, 1996. New localities are reported for other species. The female genitalia of Septuaginta zagulajevi is pictured for the first time. One species formerly determined as Stenoptilia aff. islandica (Staudinger, 1857) (USTJUZHANIN & KOVTUNOVICH, 2008) is redetermined as Stenoptilia nurolhaki Amsel, 1967. The fauna of plume moths of Mongolia comprises 52 species at present. We suppose that it is possible to find an additional 5-7 species in the fauna of the country. The species is described and the moth and genital structure are figured. Samenvatting. Stenoptilia coenei sp. nov. uit Kirgizië (Lepidoptera: Pterophoridae) Tussen vedermotten verzameld in Kirgizië werd een nieuwe soort gevonden: Stenoptilia coenei. Gielis, C.: Mr. Haafkensstraat 36, NL-4128 CJ Lexmond, The Netherlands. Introduction In the summer of 1997, Mr. Hans Coene travelled in the Central Asian states of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. During this trip, moths were collected among which were some plume moths. The identification of these resulted in establishing the species currently known from this region, except for one specimen, originating from high altitude. This specimen, belonging to the genus Stenoptilia, turned out to be not yet described. The following is the description of this species. Stenoptilia coenei sp. nov. Type material. Holotype ♂: Kyrgyzstan, Terskei Ala-Tau, Dolon Pass N side, 3000–3200 m, 7.VII.1997, leg. H. A. Coene, prep. CG 2806, deposited in the National Natural History Museum, Naturalis, Leiden. Diagnosis. The species is characterised by the white basal fringes along the termen and dorsum of the first forewing lobe, the costa of the second lobe and the absence of scale teeth in the fringes of the forewing.

  • Prospects for Biological Control of Teasels, Dipsacus Spp., a New Target in the United States
Biological Control 36 (2006) 1–14 www.elsevier.com/locate/ybcon Prospects for biological control of teasels, Dipsacus spp., a new target in the United States Brian G. Rector a,¤, Vili Harizanova b, René Sforza a, Tim Widmer a, Robert N. Wiedenmann c a USDA-ARS, European Biological Control Laboratory, Montpellier, France b Department of Entomology, Agriculture University, 12 Mendeleev Str., 4000 Plovdiv, Bulgaria c Department of Entomology, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR 72701, USA Received 1 January 2005; accepted 16 September 2005 Available online 7 November 2005 Abstract Two closely related teasels (Dipsacales: Dipsacaceae, Dipsacus spp.) of European origin have become invasive weeds in the United States. Common teasel (Dipsacus fullonum L.) and cutleaf teasel (Dipsacus laciniatus L.) have likely been in North America for more than two centuries, having been introduced along with cultivated teasel [D. sativus (L.) Honckney], an obsolete crop plant. There are few records of American insects or pathogens attacking Dipsacus spp. Invasive teasels have recently begun to spread rapidly throughout much of their current range, for reasons that are not yet known. Common and/or cut-leaf teasel have been listed as noxious in Wve US states and as invasive in 12 other states and four national parks. Because the family Dipsacaceae is an exclusively Old World family, clas- sical biological control is an important component of the overall management strategy of this weed in the US. Field surveys for natural enemies of D. fullonum and D. laciniatus in their native ranges and literature reviews of natural enemies of plants in the family Dipsaca- ceae have yielded 102 species of insects in six orders, as well as 27 fungi from 10 orders, three mites, one nematode, and two viruses.

195 7 T he LepidoPterists' News 179 RECENT LITERATURE ON LEPIDOPTERA (U nder the supervision of PETER F. BELLINGER) Under this heading are included abstracts of papers and books of interest to lepid terists. The world's literature is searched systematically, and it is intended that every work on Lepidoptera published after 1946 will be noticed here; omissions of papers more than 3 or 4 years old should be called to Dr. BELLINGER'S attention. New genera and higher categories are shown in CAPITALS, with types in parentheses; new species and subspecies are noted, with type localities if given in print. Larval food plants are usually listed. Critical comments by abstractors may be made. Papers of only local interest and papers from The Lepidopterists' News are listed without abstract. Readers, particularly outside of North America, interested in assisting with this very large task, are invited to write Dr. BELLINGER (Osborn Zoological Lab., Yale University, New Haven 11, Conn., U. S. A.) . Abstractors' initials are as follows: [P.B.] - P. F. BELLIN GER; [I.e.] - I. F. B. COMMON; [W.c.]- W. C. COOK; [A.D.] - A. DIAKONOFF; [W.H.]- W. HACKMAN; [J.M.] - J. MOUCHA; [E.M.I -E. G .
