ABOUT THE WORKPLACE LEARNING PROGRAM... SHAPE A YOUNG PERSON’S FUTURE! ese courses, which require the completion of industry relevant work placements, contribute to the Higher School Certifi cate and lead to nationally recognised Australian Qualifi cations Framework (AQF) qualifi cations. e Structured Workplace Learning program provides students with the opportunity to gain industry and employability skills as well as on the job SO WHAT DO experience from their potential future career path. WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU? Businesses and industry leaders who volunteer to host students under the YOU NEED program are widely recognised for supporting local youths and giving back to their community. ey are sharing industry skills, knowledge and passion and contributing to their TO KNOW industry’s relevance for future employment. Under the program, host employers are also able to trial students’ suitability for current or future employment and inspire students to stay on track on their path ABOUT from school to work. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW? Students who require work placement under the Workplace Learning Program are THE usually required to complete 2 placements over two years. Each work placement is for a minimum of 35 hours and is normally obtained over 1 week during school term, however, these arrangements are fl exible depending on employers’ availability and student needs. WORKPLACE Students are deemed as “voluntary workers” whilst on work placement, therefore, employers are not required to make any payment to them. Insurance and indemnity requirements for students on work placement are arranged by the student’s relevant school body: the NSW Department of Education, TAFE NSW, Catholic Schools NSW or the Association of Independent LEARNING Schools NSW. Any payment made to the student whilst on placement may invalidate these arrangements. PROGRAM? Southern Region BEC have been pairing senior high school students with local employers throughout Queanbeyan, Braidwood, Yass, Goulburn, Crookwell, Cooma, Jindabyne and Bombala under the Structured Workplace Learning Program for over 18 years. e Southern Region Business Enterprise Centre is a dynamic regional organisation with a long history, delivering a comprehensive range of business and educational services to regional NSW and the ACT. Our purpose is to assist businesses become more sustainable, to generate employment opportunities and to assist our young people with their career and educational journey. Our specialised Workplace Learning Coordinators are the link between high schools and industry.
