What they say Fred Rutten, Feyenoord coach: "The result of the first game was good, but we know we were very lucky. The result is no guarantee we will get through. We know they are very difficult to beat. They are very patient and will wait for us to make a mistake. Two important players are suspended [Luke Wilkshire and Lex Immers], so this will be a different team this time. Our team is very young and we have to be aware of Roma's skill and the experience. Nevertheless, we want a big result." AS Roma coach Rudi Garcia: "We know that the match tomorrow is very important. It's one of the biggest matches this season. It is clear that we want to win, but therefore we have to score a goal. That's going to be a difficult task, because Feyenoord are a tough team to beat, especially at their home ground. We want a lot of possession and to create as many chances as in the first game. But we must be clinical this time. We are confident of getting the result we want." Previous meetings • The sides met for the first time in UEFA club competition, with Colin Kazım Richards cancelling out Gervinho's opener to earn Feyenoord an away goal and a draw. • Feyenoord are unbeaten in five home games against Italian opponents (W2 D3), though the most recent three ended in draws. • Roma have lost both of their previous away games in the Netherlands by one-goal margins. Form guide • Feyenoord are on a four-game winning streak at home in European competition. • Roma have gone six games without a European away win (D3 L3). • Feyenoord have not won a springtime UEFA club competition tie since they beat Borussia Dortmund in the 2001/02 UEFA Cup final. • Roma went into the first leg without a win in their last five European games, a run including home defeats by FC Bayern München (7-1) and Manchester City FC (2-0) in this season's UEFA Champions League group stage. Trivia and links • Feyenoord's Kazım Richards played alongside Roma's Vasilis Torosidis and Kostas Manolas during his time at Olympiacos FC in 2012. • Feyenoord defender Khalid Bouhlarouz is up against three former team-mates: Roma's Ashley Cole (Chelsea FC, 2006–07), Morgan De Sanctis and Seydou Keita (Sevilla FC, 2007/08). • Roma's Dutch forward Urby Emanuelson and Feyenoord's Kenneth Vermeer came through the youth ranks together at AFC Ajax, and were team-mates until Emanuelson left for AC Milan in 2011. • Roma's Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman started his career with Feyenoord's neighbours Sparta Rotterdam; he was born in Ridderkerk, which is around 15km south-east of Rotterdam. • Feyenoord (1975, 2002) are among 11 former UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League winners in the round of 32. They are one of the six last-32 contenders who have won the European Cup or UEFA Champions League (1970). The coaches • Feyenoord coach Fred Rutten was a defender for FC Twente, and coached the club in two spells before heading abroad to join FC Schalke 04 in 2008. He returned to the Netherlands the following year and spent nearly three years in charge at PSV Eindhoven and then a season with Vitesse, taking up his current post in March 2014. • The son of a footballer, Roma's French coach Rudi Garcia was a midfielder for LOSC Lille and SM Caen, among others, though he was forced to retire aged 28. He studied and did media work before making his name as a coach with AS Saint-Étienne and Dijon FCO. His attack-minded LOSC side won the French title in 2010/11, with Roma bringing him in as coach in June 2013. 4 Feyenoord - AS Roma Thursday 26 February 2015 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Feijenoord Stadion, Rotterdam Team facts Feyenoord Formed: 1908 Nickname: De Trots van Zuid (The Pride of South) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup (1): 1970 • UEFA Cup (2): 1974, 2002 Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) Domestic title: 14 (1999) Dutch Cup: 11 (2008) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: play-offs 2012/13: play-offs (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: play-offs 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2008/09: group stage 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2006/07: round of 32 (excluded from competition for crowd disturbances) 2005/06: first round 2004/05: round of 32 Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 9-0: Feyenoord v US Rumelange 13/09/72, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-12: US Rumelange v Feyenoord 27/09/72, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Feyenoord v VfB Stuttgart 29/09/98, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Real Madrid CF v Feyenoord 22/09/65, European Champion Clubs' Cup preliminary round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 9-0: Feyenoord v US Rumelange (see above) • Biggest away win 0-12: US Rumelange v Feyenoord (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Feyenoord v VfB Stuttgart (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach v Feyenoord 22/10/86, second round first leg AS Roma Formed: 1927 Nickname: Giallorossi (Red and Yellows) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup: (1984) • UEFA Cup: (1991) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 3 (2001) 5 Feyenoord - AS Roma Thursday 26 February 2015 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Feijenoord Stadion, Rotterdam Italian Cup: 9 (2008) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: did not participate in UEFA competition 2012/13: did not participate in UEFA competition 2011/12: UEFA Europa League play-offs 2010/11: round of 16 2009/10: UEFA Europa League round of 32 2008/09: round of 16 2007/08: quarter-finals 2006/07: quarter-finals 2005/06: UEFA Cup round of 16 2004/05: group stage Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 7-0: Roma v ND Gorica 28/09/00, UEFA Cup first round second leg 7-0: Roma v Vitória FC 16/09/99, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 1-7: KAA Gent v Roma 06/08/09, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 1-7: Roma v FC Bayern München 21/10/14, UEFA Champions League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 7-1: Manchester United FC v Roma 10/04/07, UEFA Champions League quarter-finals second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 7-0: Roma v ND Gorica (see above) 7-0: Roma v Vitória FC (see above) • Biggest away win 1-7: KAA Gent v Roma (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Roma v Liverpool FC 15/02/01, fourth round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 3-0: Karlsruher SC v Roma 15/10/96, second round first leg 6 Feyenoord - AS Roma Thursday 26 February 2015 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Feijenoord Stadion, Rotterdam Squad list Feyenoord Current season All-time UCL QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No.
