Measure your personal best on the speedcheck slope on the “Kleine Scheidegg”. Bürgenstock The Bürgenstock, also Bürgenberg, is a Swiss mountain (1 128 m. above sea level) above lake Lucerne in the canton Nidwalden. The Bürgenstock Hotel is a health resort on this very same mountain the Alp Tritt. The hotel complex on the Bürgenstock has been called since 2014 the “Bürgenstock Hotel & Resort”. In the year 1872 the Bucher & Durrer company founded the hotel branch on Alp Tritt. They chose for this the alredy existing and documented name Bürgenstock. The Bürgenstock houses several luxury hotels and a congress center and has been one since 1872 popular holiday resort and a congress destination. The highest open-air elevator in Europe, the Hammetschwandlift, is located on the Bürgenstock. He connects the scenic rock path with the Hammetschwand viewpoint, from where you can enjoy an impressive view of lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains. Along the rocky way you can go to the Hammetschwandlift, the largest open-air lift Europe a walk of a few minutes. At the foot of the steep cliffs to the lake Lucerne is the village of Kehrsiten, that you can reach with the Bürgenstock train, and from there it is possible to take a catamaran boat trip across lake Lucerne to Lucerne. The highest point is the Tomlishorn with a height of 2 128 m above sea level. Located on the promising local mountain of Lucerne the mountain station Pilatus Kulm of the Pilatusbahn with the viewing teracce, a panorama gallery and two hotels. The Pilatus is not a mountain with a closed summit structure, the mountain range consists rather of single ones peaks or a mountain range, of which the donkey is the most striking rock formation. The Pilatus is under land protection, which also today helps keep the ibex in the wild all over the mountain can be found and is one of the great attractions of Pilatus. In 1860 the Hotel Bellevue was opened on the Pilatus. Queen Victoria stayed in 1868 with her entourage in the hotel. The Pilatustbahn, the steepest cogwheel train in the world, has been running with a maxium gradient of 48% from Alpnachstad to Pilatus-Kulm at 2 073 m above sea level, a year later after the opening of the railways was followed by the hotel Kulm. The first construction of the hotel Bellevue was carried out from 1963 replaced the now known rotunda, whereby the mountain station of the rack railway was extended. Travel guide: half day 150.-CHF full day 300.-CHF Trip: From Lucerne to mount Pilatus with the Kriens-Krienseregg-Fräkmüntegg gondola since 1956 and the Fräkmüntegg-Pilatus cable car, which was renewed in april 2015. This enables us to take a round trip from Lucerne to Mount Pilatus by gondola and aerial cableway, then (but not in winter) with the cogwheel train to Alpnachstad and via steamship, motorship back to Lucerne. We will pick you up at the hotel and drive you to Kriens cable car, at the agreed time we are in Alpnachstad and take you to the ship. You can enjoy the return journey by ship to Lucerne, our chauffeur will pick you up at the shipping quay in Lucerne and bring you back to the hotel. Numerous sports can be practiced on the Pilatus, such as paragliding, sledging, hiking, climbing (in the rock and in a rope park), mountain biking and tobogganing on the summer toboggan run. The top of the mountain is illuminated for a few nights. The mountain is like that at night too an attraction high above the city of lights, Lucerne. Stanserhorn The Stanserhorn (1 897 m above sea level) lies between the villages of Stans, Ennetmoos, Kerns, Dallenwill and Oberdorf, south of lake Lucerne and thus in the Unterwaldner Voralpen.

From here we followed the milky glacial meltwaters of the Lutschine River to Lauterbrunnen where we boarded the train for the last leg of our journey to Wengen, perched high on the alp above. It was a short walk to our hotel where we had time to settle in and admire the amazing scenery. It had been a very hot day with temperatures in the mid-30s and, as we enjoyed our evening meal on the terrace, we were treated to a superb alpenglow on the Jungfrau. Day 2 Monday 27th June The hot sunny weather of yesterday looked set to continue, so we took the cable-car up to Mannlichen. We were immediately in a different world, surrounded by a panorama of mountains, dominated by the imposing north faces of the Jungfrau and Eiger, and with a wealth of alpine flowers at our feet.

    Die Hinterlassenschaft der letzten Eiszeit 1 Die Hinterlassenschaft der letzten Eiszeit Zusammenfassung In der Eiszeit war der grösste Teil von Obwalden vom Eis des Brünigarms des Aaregletschers bedeckt. Das belegen viele Granit-Findlinge. Es handelt sich dabei um vom Gletscher aus dem Grimselgebiet über den Brünig nach Obwalden transportierte Blöcke. Nach dem allmählichen Rückzug der Gletscher ab ca. 16‘000 Jahren vor unserer Zeit, hinterliessen sie gletschergeschliffene Seitenhänge mit viel fruchtbarem Moränenmaterial und ein tief eingeschnittenes Sarneraatal, bei welchem der „Ur- Vierwaldstättersee“ anfänglich bis Giswil reichte. Die Flüsse in Obwalden, vor allem die Grosse Melchaa und die Grosse und Kleine Schliere aber brachten viel Geschiebe, füllten das Talbecken teilweise auf und trennten mit der Zeit den Sarnersee vom Vierwaldstättersee ab. Mit dem Rückzug der Gletscher wurden gewisse Seitenhänge instabil. Der Bergssturz von Engelberg stürzte nach heutiger Erkenntnis noch auf einen Gletscher im Tal. Erste Bergstürze am Stanserhorn vermutlich auch. Andere Hangbereiche stürzten nicht ab, aber kamen langsam ins Gleiten. Die grossen Sackungen von Stalden und die Sackung am Arvigrat werden so erklärt. Der grosse Bergsturz von Kerns wird dagegen heute als das Resultat eines grossen Erdbebens ca. 2‘200 Jahren vor unserer Zeit angesehen. Die gewaltigen Eismassen, welche durch die Täler bis weit ins Schweizer Mittelland vorstiessen, formten bei ihren Vorstössen durch Druck und schleifende Eisfliessbewegungen die Landschaft und hinterliessen nach ihrem Rückzug deutliche Spuren ihres Wirkens. Es werden im Artikel einzelne, noch heute in der Landschaft erkennbare Spuren dieser landschaftsformenden Überprägung durch die Eiszeit beschrieben. Damit soll kein vollständiger Beschrieb der Talgeschichte von Obwalden entstehen, aber an einzelnen Beispielen gezeigt werden, wie das eiszeitliche Erbe die Entwicklung der Kulturlandschaften mitprägte und bis in die heutige Zeit von grossem Nutzen für uns Menschen ist.
