Eclectic in content and covering a myriad of musical genres, a Campfire Convention, World Premiere, and a wee bit more – you are the judge and jury but everyone involved hopes you’ll enjoy it. The Season is dedicated to the memory of Julian Sluggett without whom the theatre-side of WemsFest would never have existed and I’m particularly delighted that the newly-formed Emsworth Players are involved and that you have the opportunity to attend a World Premiere of ‘When the Poppies Bloom Again’. We’ve a new venue – Emsworth Sports & Social Club – centrally located, with a great atmospheric room, good bar and car-parking. As always, we are grateful to Carol Waldron and her staff at Bookends (Emsworth) for being our physical box-office and their continued support of events in the Emsworth area. We also have 2 new box-offices located in Havant, and Hayling Island (see Booking Information). We’re continually adding to the ongoing programme -the best way to be fully upto date is to email us at ‘[email protected]’ and we’ll ensure this. Thank You for supporting live, community-based events ! Two great and very diverse concerts in a new venue which oozes atmosphere and has a cheap bar with cask-conditioned ale ! ta in cur ers Rais Thursday 26 July 8pm Hat Fitz & Cara Emsworth Sports & Social Club, 43 Havant Road, Emsworth PO10 7JF He’s been savaged by a saltwater Crocodile, bitten twice by venomous snakes and his favourite guitar was rescued from a skip. Fitzy is unique – a real tonic to acoustic blues in both his playing and his onstage persona which contrasts so strikingly with the demure Cara whose percussive techniques drive things along and her repartee keeps her husband firmly in his place ! www.hatfitzandcara.com £14.00 Friday 14 September 8pm Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess Emsworth Sports & Social Club, 43 Havant Road, Emsworth PO10 7JF The effervescent Benji Kirkpatrick (Faustus, and Bellowhead) formed this trio when Bellowhead decided to call it a day - along with fellow ‘header’ Tim Flood (drums), and Pete Thomas (bass). ‘Bloke Folk’ ‘Energetic Folk’ this band rightly defy any labeling but what they deliver is exciting, boundary- pushing, and even includes some Hendrix, and Thompson. www.benkirkpatrick.com £12.50 7th This year we’ve become more of an extended Festival ‘Season’ than a shorter time-frame of events purely because of time, venue, and artist constraints coupled with a number of excellent events which deserve your enjoyment. This is a 24 hour gathering consisting of opening talk, think-shops and open space format, giving attendees an opportunity to propose their own sessions. Saturday evening features a communal meal, following by a campfire around the healing stone and circle singing. There will also be a chilled DJ session in the hall. Using an Open Space approach, Campfire’ offers up the opportunity for everyone to hold spaces of their own and share with others. This simple format revolves around a blackboard (real or virtual) where members who are attending can fill in the blank spaces and direct or curate their own sessions. Each space offers a blank canvas to fill with your creative ideas. You might want to hold space on 'how to' do a particular activity, develop a skill. You may wish to have a discussion or convene a panel to debate an issue or discuss new ideas and directions, you may wish to do yoga practise, meditate, or exhibit your photography. You may want to do musical or art appreciation, demonstrate vegan cooking, discuss ethical packaging or climate change, the future of politics or regale others with travel tales. You might want to set new goals, seek advice on a new venture or pour your heart out about a personal problem. “I come to Campfire because I’m interested in new social ideas, how we can run the world, how we can think differently about things. I’ve met a lot people at Campfire who have specific and very exciting projects that really are to do with re-thinking democracy and understanding that democracy means ruled by the community, it doesn’t mean what we have now”. Brian Eno, Campfire patron, musician, activist, inventor. *The Big Chill was well known for its thriving and proactive online community before the current mainstream social networks were established.
