Lot 62 NATURAL HISTORY - Meteorites Lot 62 METEORITE, iron, from a crater field in northern Argentina, 307g, Estimate A$550 about 7x5x4cm. [The age of the Campo del Cielo (= Field of Heaven) is estimated at 4000-5000 years. It was first recorded by the Spaniards in 1576, but was already well Reserve A$420 known to the indigenous inhabitants. The craters and the area around contain numerous fragments of an enormous , with the total weight of the pieces so far recovered being about 100 tonnes. It is possibly the heaviest meteorite to be recovered]

Lot 63 NATURAL HISTORY - Meteorites Lot 63 , LL5 , fell spectacularly as a bright fireball on Estimate A$2,400 February 15th 2013, over and exploded over Chelyabinsk, destroying many windows, and injuring many people, piece 41g, about 6x3x2cm, in a display case. [Images Reserve A$1,800 of the fireball were captured by many video cameras and can be seen on Youtube. Caused by a 20m near-Earth with a speed of 19km per second, the light from the meteor was brighter than the sun, visible up to 100km away. It is the largest known natural object to have entered the Earth's atmosphere since the 1908 which destroyed a forested area of Siberia. The main mass fell into Chebarkul lake and broke the ice forming a 7m hole. The estimated mass of Chelyabinsk meteorite fragments recovered from the lake and collected from the on land is 1000kg]

Lot 90 NATURAL HISTORY - Meteorites Lot 90 WOLFE CREEK SHALE BALL, from the Wolfe Creek meteorite impact crater in Western Estimate A$1,100 Australia, 558g, about 9x8x6cm. [Wolfe Creek meteorite crater is the second most 'obvious' meteorite crater on Earth (after the famous Barringer Crater in Arizona), and Reserve A$850 averages 875m in diameter. It was brought to the attention of scientisis after being spotted in an aerial survey in 1947. It is estimated that the meteorite that formed it was about 15m in diameter and had a mass of 17,000 tonnes. Small numbers of iron meteorites have been found in the vicinity of the crater, as well as so-called shale balls, rounded objects made of iron oxide. Shale balls are created by the slow weathering of the exterior of a meteorite]
